If Sheahan matches Franzen's developmental curve, we can expect him to be a PKer in 2017-18, and a power forward sometime in 2020.
This is me holding my breath waiting another 8 years for him to develop...he has so much development to do before he's even a viable 13th forward. No hands.
He would be a solid 4th line center right now I would bet. I agree he has some developing to do, but hes definitely shown the potential to be a stud third line center in the future, maybe a guy like Cleary who is versatile and can bump up into the top 6 at times.

I guess that's what I'm missing - aside from his draft position, he hasn't really shown any potential at all. Even 4th line centers score in the NCAA and the AHL. He couldn't score at ND, had 2 points in 7 games for GR, and took a terrible penalty on his first NHL shift.
As far as the Cleary comparison, he scored 115 points in 63 games in the OHL as a 17 year old. There's just no comparison to be made there - it was much clearer that he had the offensive tools under the surface. Sheahan has never scored much at any level.
I have never understood what people see in this guy that gets them so hot and bothered. He's big and can skate. Ok. So what? I need to see him put up some points - somewhere - before I buy that he's a legitimate prospect of any kind. But that's me.
for 1 Sheahan is great defensively and is already much better than emmerton is as a 4th line center. if you watch him play you can see he has the tools to be a great 3rd line center.
the point being if emmerton can stay in the line up over the year then Sheahan is already decent as far as 4th line center goes. and like i said if you watch him regularly you would see he it a lot better than the stat sheet shows

Unreal dsefensively, has shown offensive skill when you watch him, good shot, big, physical and can skate. I dont think hes much offensively in the NHL but he could be that awesome defensive third line anchor with the ability to chip in some points. Manny Malhotra never had a ppg year in the OHL which is rare and hes now one of the best defensive centermen in the league. Brandon Sutter didnt do much offensively in the WHL either
Yeah Sheahan looks to be one of those solid role players that you need to win a cup. Like Helm cept a different role. Not sure why so many people here like to **** on him.
I'm excited that the wings signed Triston Grant, hes one of the best **** disturbers in the league and will really help with Callahan. Hes a huge hitter as well.
Griffins got a 4-2 win tonight in a fight filled game it seems. Billins, Parkes, Coetzee and Smith scored. Pearce had 27 saves

I cant comment on how any went (except for that it sounded like Callahan won) but if Aubry can add fighting as a legit dimension to his game he will be a pretty awesome prospect. Hes 6'5, can skate and hits hard, solid defensively and becoming a solid fighter would be awesome. That Mitchell Heard is apretty legit tough guy as well

Jurco played a lot 1st line, PP, PK had a couple nice passes that led to scoring chances but did not really stand out. He was bigger than I expected having only seen him on TV prior to this game.
I was impressed by Coetzee he has some really nice offensive moves.
Tough night all around for Aubry. He took several minor penalties and seem pretty frustrated by the end of the game. He definitely did not win his fight but gave it a decent effort.

No fighting major but Fournier challanged Lake Erie heavyweight Bordeleau after he boarded Parkes into the GR bench. This resulted in a pretty good scrum involving multiple players.
Also Anderson got into a wrestling match and threw a couple punches at the end of the second period drawing a double minor.
As for the fights here is my take keeping in mind most of these happened on the other side of the ice from where I was sitting and for some reason they did not replay any of the fights.
Grant win (easiest to call of the night)
Callahan/Wilson best contest of the night with both landing. Wilson more quantity but Callahan got him with a couple good shots. I will call call a draw.
Aubry fight happened right in front of me. Loss to Aubry even though he had a major reach advantage he was on the defensive the majority of the fight and took a bit more than he gave.
Raedeke/Matt Tassone I did not get a good view so no comments on this one.

I think that's his upside. But the chances of that happening are probably 25 percent.

Malhotra was a 3rd line center in his draft year on a team that lost the memorial cup in OT, then he turned pro at 18. He actually scored over a ppg on the memorial cup run that Guelph made mostly without top center Andrew Long who was assaulted in the plymouth series. He was a tournament all star along with Marian Hossa. So to be fair, if Malhotra played in the OHL at 18 he would have been Guelphs first line center(instead of Gerbe) and imo easily would have put up 80 points...even if he wasn't a real flashy player. I like the comparison, but it's a bit convenient.

Malhotra was also a 7th overall pick. He was thought to have a lot more offensive talent then he turned out having. You're right, I disagree with using him as an example here.
Sheahan still has time to develop on offense at the pro level, he has bigger offensive flashes as far as his weapons in my opinion. Malhotra struggled to score at the AHL level also, I just don't think his shot is very good.
Not the worst comparison but I don't know that it is the first place I go. Not as big (read just tall, about the same size eventually with Sheahan more compact) but I like to use Hanzal. Malhotra is a defensive specialist with very limited offensive abilities. Hanzal while limited number wise is more of a threat more often and has talent that gets him on the PP. I think Sheahan will be similar at the NHL level and you won't be stressed out if he has to play in the top 6 during injuries or on a team with slightly less talent like Hanzal does. They also were drafted in similar positions.
I have a hard time believing Sheahan wouldn't have been a point a game player at some point in the OHL. As you're pointing out with Malhotra, not a ton of guys are before after they are drafted. Sheahan played in a system that doesn't score a lot of points and was asked to play on a role which offered even less. That would likely not have been his role had he gone the major junior route. He was impressive in his last WJC camp and scored and made a big case for making the team. Still believe Canada wins gold if he is on that roster, his defensive attributes would have helped during that epic collapse.

I agree, his shot and hands all point to a really good player but he just doesnt seem to have the touch yet. That could be just from opportunities given to him but he hasnt shown it yet. He had an unreal hard shot, but that got him stuck on the point on the PP at Notre Dame where he was probably better off banging the puck in down low based on his size and skill level.
I'm not sure what to expect from him points wise. Most people thought Nyquist would only put up around 40 points in his first pro season. I'm more interested to see how he looks then actual production honestly. A lot of guys dont produce in their first year and turn out pretty solid. Pros a big change, but I think anywhere around 30 or 40 points should be a solid season for Sheahan.
I also wonder why he didnt play either preseason game? Hurt or I wonder if he was just good in camp so they wanted to see other guys before making cuts
Pretty much who I expected to see go. Mrazek will now get a heavy workload and the Wings brass can make a final decision on McCollum. Surprised no D-man is on that list, would have thought they would need one for numbers.
