First games were tough on him, because he had to play with Nico Manelius, the worst defenseman in FEL. So Manelius <-> Karlsson was a pretty successful change.

Should have traded for him and Rundblad.

But if we are doing hindsight, we should have drafted Taresenko.

Jokerit fan praising one of his own to high heavens, how cute. There's a reason why he was drafted on round 7. I'll be surprised if he ever makes it to NHL, but maybe Karlsson will have positive influence and give him a little push.

Cute? Have you ever seen Eronen play? Before the season, he was ranked in many magazines as a TOP5-defenseman in FEL. Pre-season was great, first games were tough but now he is really playing on the level he should be.

Eronen's style of playing has always been very un-noticable, which is good for a defenseman. Everything looks so easy, so you havent really noticed him in the own end. Last few years he has really bloomed offensively, though he doesnt have the hardest shot, he manages to time his shots just right.

Here's the highlights against Tappara:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLXU2S-d1k0

Eronen's PK goal (0:27 -->) by rushing to the net and a beautiful finish.

Eronen's assist (2:47 -->) to V. Filppula who scores.

Thought I'd put Erik Karlsson stats here while he's playing in FEL for Jokerit.

SEP 29, 2012: HPK @ JOKERIT 1 -5
G 1, A 0, P 1, +/- +1, PIM 0, S 9, TOI 23:15

OCT 2, 2012: JOKERIT @ KÄRPÄT 2 - 4
G 0, A 1, P 1, +/- 0, PIM 0, S 7, TOI 27:10

OCT 4, 2012: HIFK @ JOKERIT 2 - 4
G 0, A 1, P 1, +/- +2, PIM 0, S 8, TOI 31:41

OCT 5, 2012: JOKERIT @ TAPPARA 5 - 3
G 0, A 2, P 2, +/- +3, PIM 0, S 5, TOI 22:24

After four games, he has 1 goal and 4 assists, 5 pts, +/- +6. Karlsson's average ice time 26:07.

Guys, admit now that Spezza and Karlsson makes you salivate!

Really? Perfectly happy with Turris.

They got the best value possible out of Rundblad

Who said we would not have gotten Turris? The asking price was a first round pick. Murray offered Rundblad and a second. We could still have gotten him, maybe offered Puempel and a 2nd or something.

Zibanejad/Spezza/Tarasenko
Silfverberg/Turris/Stone

That would have been a great top six in a couple years.

Oh well, it is all hindsight now.

Like you said, hindsight is useless. There's also the butterfly effect. If we drafted Tarasenko, all things would have been different, we'll never ever never know so stop thinking about "what if". We traded for Rundblad, that's what we did and it's perfectly fine like that.

As for people thinking like that, they'll end up with tons of regrets in their death bed.

But before I close on this, there's nothing that can garantee you that we could have had Turris if we didn't have Rundblad... And maybe Puempel + Turris > Rundblad + Tarasenko

So who knows? Things aren't linear in life

It's impossible to say "should have traded for him and player x"... because no one has crystal ball and knows what would have happened if and if and if and if and if...

So you mean if we kept Chara, we might not have gotten Karlsson?! Then you are saying the Leafs could even have drafted him, at which point Karlsson would have been a bust?!

I remember Murray traded our first to STL because the player he wanted was gone. Who do you think that was? Gormley or Shwartz?

The main guys I heard in that draft they wanted in no order were Skinner, Burmistrov, Shwartz and Forbort

The asking price was also Zibanejad, a 6th overall. You're being vague. The asking price was a top prospect. We likely weren't getting Turris for anything but Zibanejad or Turris and it's folly to suggest anything otherwise.

The players look around like they've never seen anything like it.

You'll probably come to realize he's everything that's beautiful about the game. Very few guys in the game I'd prefer to watch over him.

Makes sense. You look at who was picked after 16 and there's not much there other than Tarasenko and Kuznetsov.

Are we talking at draft day, or hindsight? Because Coyle, Bjugstad, Tinordi, Etem etc have been doing well since.
