Martindale really did look good tonight; winning faceoffs, winning battles for the puck, and making things happen. He's definitely giving management something to think about as far as OKC is concerned.
Pajjarvi was skating well and got physically engaged a couple of times. Made a great pass to Martindale on his goal.
Schultz really looks good out there. He skates well and shows a lot of poise. He made a couple of gaffes, particularly on the one Houston goal where he coughed it up at the far blueline, but all in all he's showing what the hype was all about.
Pitlick scored a beauty goal, showing great speed and hands, but wasn't outstanding otherwise, just decent.
Danis didn't have a great game, but the PK didn't help him much as they scored 3 PP goals.
Granlund was just dirty tonight; can't wait to see what RNH and Ebs can do down there.
My 2 cents on the AHL Live broadcasts: Yeah the quality is not great, and neither is the production (the camera direction is almost laughable at times). But, I'm pretty excited to be able to see what our team is going to look like in the near future so I think it's a well spent $150.

Thanks for the reply. Doesn't sound like it was too bad of a game so i'm still going to watch the archive tomorrow. And I agree with you, I think it's well worth it if you can afford it. Like someone else said before, I've spent that kind of money on worse things than this. Just excited to watch some pro hockey.
Just reading the boxcars, it's pretty impressive to see Martindale somehow ended up #2 on the night. I think he might have done enough to trade seats on the bus to Stockton with Hamilton.
Just watched the highlights from the game- What a horrible turnout. Hopefully the crowds are much better once the regular season starts. They have to find a way to get butts in those seats and get some atmosphere in that building.

Once again I will reiterate, these are the venues that minor league preseason games are played in...

You put that crowd in a 13,000 seat arena and it would look much the same, so don't read too much into it.

Thanks!
As to the bolded part, that pretty much described how he played in his last season in Ottawa. He has been my sleeper project/prospect for a while. I really hope he turns the corner.
And while I agree it is tough to see a building so empty when we are starved for live hockey, we need to remember that for the fans in OKC, these are meaningless games that right now are competing against football and the MLB playoffs.

They tend not to have huge crowds in general, but especially early in the year when college football is on.
Besides that though it is a bit deceiving because for whatever reason most of the crowd sits on the side of the arena where the camera is, so you usually see the sparse side and the other side of the arena can be fairly filled up. Not sure why that is though.
I have been saying for a while they should curtain off the upper area of the arena. It would be a better atmosphere in there when you are putting 3 or 4 thousand fans in a 13 thousand seat arena it still looks spotty and the atmosphere of the crowd noise would be better if they were all kept in the lower bowls.
I am hoping now that they have had a couple years to start building things up, had a nice playoff run and now with the excitement of NHL stars coming to play that they can pull themselves out of the bottom 5 in league attendance and closer to the middle of the pack.

That sounds like it was a terrible game. Sounds as if Hamilton is taking a step back, not good if you ask me. At least Martindale is playing well, that is nice to see.
I think the lockout is going to provide a few players with quite an opportunity to jump straight into the NHL once the NHL resumes. I'm thinking of Fedun, Pitlick, Teubert, possibly even Paajarvi and Lander, neither of which are sure-fire NHLers. I think if some of these guys really establish themselves as top-end players on a team that is pretty stacked, it will make the Oilers more comfortable with opening up spots on the big team.
Anyone know if its possible to have 2 different households watching the ahl thing at the same time? I'm considering trying to split the bill of that with my father but we live in different houses
Not a huge surprise for Rajala or Zahn but I'm very surprised that Cornet got sent down. He looked fine in the preseason, I figured he'd be a solid third liner. I would have sent down Abney, Pelss, and probably Hamilton before him.

We probably disagree but I actually thought Cornet's skating which had improved at the start of last season, seems to have regressed a little.
Also with his 24 goal season he got very hot early and I think something like 20 or 21 of those goals came in the first 30 to 35 games or so of the season. He picked up some more assists in the second half, but he went very cold with goal scoring.
Still I am surprised Pelss made it over him. Maybe it did just come down to foot speed between those two?
Good on Martindale he looked really good in both preaseason games. But can he sustain a good training camp and bring it every night this season? That the is the question.
IMO, it just comes down to the Oilers probably thinking Cornet will likely never be a regular NHLer on the Oilers.
There's nothing I saw that would suggest Pelss or Hamilton earned a spot over him, not to mention his ahl experience, so the only thing I can think of is that those two players are simply more highly thought of within the organization.
I'm sure he will be the first one back once the NHL resumes, but that would be enough for me to want the organization to move me elsewhere if I were him.
