Should Gary Bettman get paid less if that also happens to the players

I realize the chances of this ever happening is virtually 0%, however a few weeks ago I believe it was Teemu Selanne who said why doesn't Gary Bettman get his salary cut in half or something like to help the league and etc. Now that has me wondering should Bettman at least offer publicy to get paid less as a way to help the NHL, because why should the players be the only ones to have their salaries cut in half.

I'm pretty sure the savings that would come from that are essentially null, especially because Bettman is paid less than any other sports commish in the big 4

Because if there was 500 bettmans and they took 20% paycut that would actually save some money..

unfortunately if the players get a substantial cut, Bettman will get a substantial raise. That's just the way it is.

Wow. This could just save the season!

Let's cut Bettman's $8M year salary by the same 12.5% that it would take the players to get to 50% HRR share. That is $1.0M.

Now let's split that between the 30 teams, and each team saves $33,333.33!!!!

How has no one else thought of this?

Logically? This makes zero sense. But since the players aren't thinking logically and are just in this for emotional reasons ("OMG THE OWNERS ARE MEANIES, THEY WON LAST TIME, WHY SHOULD THEY GET TO WIN AGAIN OMGz") maybe Bettmen should do this to feel their stupid little egos.

best idea ever.

bettman will take a 50% cut, if all players signed to nhl contracts take a 50% pay cut also (including jr players)

Assuming that does happen won't Bettman look like a hypocrite for getting a raise when this whole time he was saying how the players needed to make less.

Now I'm sure the owners would also need to agree for that to happen and they would also look like hypocrites for agreeing to give Bettman a raise when someone like Criag Leipold who said the players need to make less, even though he let Chuck Fletcher sign Parise and Suter.

Bettman's pay cheque is probably less than a blip on the radar. What Teemu doesn't realize or conveniently ignores is that Bettman can work for free for the owners and the cost savings wouldn't even put a dent into the kind of cost savings the owners can gain by negotiating a larger share of the HRR pie...which means a smaller than 57% share for the players.

Bettman works for the owners. He puts the boots to the players, he gets paid more, not less.

You aren't understanding this remotely.

Depends. What is Gary Bettman's salary? I haven't seen a number in this thread...

Edit: I looked it up and he's only getting 7.5-8 million... The commissioner, the guy that runs the league is getting paid less than the superstars.

Yea, the lowest salary of all the major sports and people go crazy over it. I would hate to see what it would be like to have multiple billionaire bosses who fight with each other and their employees none stop. Give the man a raise...

I like and respect Selanne but this shows that plays have no
Clue what they are taking about.

They need to take the deal asap.
