AHL has no roster limits, do they? They also have 3 games in 3 nights, so keeping 8 dmen and 2 spare forwards is never a bad idea. Can anyone shed any lights in these matters?

Well i think thats why they signed a few ncaa forwards. Johnston and Flanigan had good years at their respective schools last year. They gave Hobbs a contract who they drafted a few years ago. 2 of 3 played in the Hockey East.

agreed, expect to see some roster additions when (if) the *#%?ing CBA is solved as lots of movement will be likely then due to the turbulence it has started and will create

I also see the Whale have no 6'8", 250 lbs killing machine on the roster... Guy like that are still needed in the AHL IMO. Haley will get killed.

This is one thing I am actually glad about. I think they will be fine without a guy like Jared Nightingale on the team.

Pound for pound Haley is one of the toughest fighters in the AHL and has more skill then a 6'8 250lb , 3 minute a game misfit

Greenville lost 4-2 theoretically 4-1 the last goal was scored on the 48 Year old Emergency Goalie for Gwinnett.

Sorry about no live updates. None of the NY/CT guys were in the lineup.

The team has to pay them, but there are no roster limits. Just limits on the number of "veteran" players who can play in any one game (not sure whether it's 4 or 5 and who qualifies on the roster as a veteran--it's based on games played professionally).

Thanks for clarification. Just curios how many dmen the whale will carry (8 healthy+mci in camp right now)

If Miller impresses in a man's league like the AHL, any chance he comes to the NYR after the lockout is over to be our 3rd line center?

Whale beat Phantoms 3-1, goals by Yogan, Kolarik and Kreider (en).

Hot: Jason Missaen
Good: Sebastien Piche, Kyle Jean
Not good: Tommy Grant, Mike Vernace
Invisible: Brandon Segal
Redden: Blake Parlett (brutal!)
Redden 2: J.T. Miller's penalty shot attempt... half-arsed attempt with one hand. C'mon kid, we know you're better than that

Unless I'm missing something, Hrivik hasn't played a single preseason game. Is he hurt?

Slim to none. Unless the lockout is settled in the next two weeks, the remaining games of the regular season will be a sprint. No time to teach rookies how to do their jobs and survive their mistakes in the standings. Especially when Tortorella is already convinced (as am I) that Boyle is a more than serviceable 3rd line center.

At 6 feet 3, 230 pounds, he has the size to out-muscle defensemen. On his first goal Sunday, Kreider took the puck from an opponents in the Whale’s zone and used his speed to start a 2-on-1 break before scoring on a slapshot from the left circle.

His third goal came on wrist shot from the left side, off a pass from Newbury.

“Those are two of his assets, that wide speed and that shot,” Whale coach Ken Gernander said. “You have to extenuate your positives ... When you have a strength you have to exploit it.”

Kreider never had a hat trick at BC.

Kreider notching a hat trick is good, but we already knew that he can score. The bigger question is how his play away from the puck is.

kreider is ready for the big leagues to start up. i thought he looked a little bored in the game against the phantoms that they streamed the other day.

i'm impressed by miller. definitely looks like he can fight his way into the roster. if a week goes by where torts isn't happy with the 3rd line production i don't doubt he'll get a call-- even if he doesn't start the season in the nhl (well... the nhl season).

was impressed by jean in the stream. guy's got a lot of size. he needs time, but def see him as a potential 4th liner.

missi is def getting better

Yet we threw Kreider in the middle of the playoffs.
