Second this. If the Giants bow out this series without Timmy getting in, we're going to hear about it all off-season "How could the Giants not give any kind of shot to one of their WS 2010 heroes?" Might as well play him, but yeah, the issue is the bats more so than the pitching.
It's crazy because I thought this lineup was better than 2010. But, so far, this is the typical Giants playoffs: bats go dead cold (or simply, hitting the ball hard...but at the Reds fielders) and Giants look like they will bow out in 3-4 games in the NLDS, like 1997, 2000, 2003.

The Giants' bats gone cold. Their hitting looks like 2 years ago except their pitching isn't good enough to bail them out this time. Cy Young Lincecum is MIA and Wilson is hurt. I have a feeling torture baseball won't have such a good ending this time around.
The last time they had two consecutive home playoff games, they scored 20 runs combined in those games, including many against a pitcher thought to be invincible in the postseason. That was magic...this is...reality.
Man the Bay Area baseball scene turned ugly real quick. After riding high from the A's winning the west, the playoffs started, and it was a really hard slap back down to reality of the Giants just playing in a weak division and the A's finally going cold. I'm not sure if I'm surprised, as the Giants have been playing bad against good teams all year and it was bound to happen that the A's would take a turn eventually. The magic couldn't last for ever. It's just sad that this weekend really was a slap back into the cold reality and after what I've seen, maybe it is for the best to end the misery sooner rather than later.
At least the good news is the 49ers did exactly what they needed to do, kick ass. That was quite a domination from the 49ers today, setting a franchise record for offensive total yards. Not only that, but Smith showed he could throw the long ball today as a lot of his passes were really a thing of beauty. Next week's game against the Giants should be fun.
Two points away from clinching the Supporter's Shield and a spot in CONCACAF Champions League next year, League's leading goalscorer who is also two goals away from tying the league record, a sweep of the #2 and #3 best teams in the West (6-0-0), and a groundbreaking on a brand new stadium coming up in just under two weeks.
If there's a time for the fair weather fans in the Bay Area (of which there are many) to hop aboard a bandwagon, now would be the time to find the Quakes.
After such a magical year pretty much EVERYTHING went wrong in that game 2.
Coco catches that ball 999/1,000 times, Cook's command was the worst I have ever seen it, and Balfour was not throwin his usual heat.
If anything this team is resilient, so I'm gonna go rock the Coliseum tomorrow night, Wed, and Thurs in hopes that they can somehow stage a miraculous 3 game comeback win.
Still amazed at what this Oakland team has done, but I'm not ready for the ride to be over.

They might be more willing to hop on the bandwagon if you stopped referring to them in passive aggressive light

CHOO CHOO!!
It's been a blast following the Quakes this season. Hopefully the magic continues and this goes down as one of the greatest seasons in bay area sports history.
In other news, USMNT call on Gordon. What is it about Wondo's game that Klinsmann just won't bite on?

I wish they'd somehow managed to get the last game played at Stanford (or Spartan Stadium or something), or the playoff games. Probably can't happen now since football season started, but it's tough to be a bandwagon fan when the stadium sells out! I would go to the last home game if it weren't sold out (anyone wanna give me a ticket?)
Anyone have a guess what day the first playoff game would be? I don't even know how many rounds there are...
I believe they've already ruled out Stanford due to scheduling issues. Same with Raider's stadium. 49ers field would be in rough shape so that's ruled out. Cal's field is too narrow + artificial turf is a no go.

Fair enough, but witnessing how so many people have become Sharks fans, the glut of Bay Areans who picked up the Giants in 2010, and those who are rooting on the A's on their magical run this year, the potential for bandwagoning is there, people just gotta latch on.

As it stands, it'll already go down as one of the best in Quakes history, there's still a couple months left but it could certainly become a great all time year.
As for Wondo, he's not Dempsey or Gomez quality control striker, and Gordon is really the only target striker on the roster, who probably won't see any time either.

Rental cost for those facilities is huge, and though the Quakes are still playing well, it unfortunately might be tough sledding to make it cost worthy for any random game. Football being in season has definitely ruled out playing at Spartan or Stanford, Candlestick is a nightmare, as is the Coliseum, and AT&T is awful for soccer.
Playoff schedule:
Play-in game (#4 vs #5): 10/31 or 11/1
Conference Semi: 11/3 or 11/4 (Quakes on road), 11/7 or 11/8 (Quakes host)
Conference Final: 11/10 or 11/11 (Quakes on road), 11/17 or 11/18 (Quakes host)
MLS Cup: 12/1 (Quakes host, assuming they beat LA or Portland to end regular season)

Expect it to be at somewhere like AT&T park.
The three possibilities, as reported, at this point, are (in order of supposed liklihood): Stanford (which would be open if the Cardinal are not hosting the PAC-12 Championship on November 30th), Buck Shaw (many seats would be given to league sponsors, not a whole lot would be left for the Quakes to sell), or as a last resort, Spartan (which hosts its last SJSU game on Nov. 24, and would put down grass for this one game).
The Quakes have already said it won't be anywhere else, and explicitly spoke out against it being at AT&T.

How long in Zito's start till Timmy is warming up? Timmy looked like vintage Timmy in his 2innings in relief vs. the Reds. Stuff was sharp: he had control of his FB and his Change was spot on. Hard to imagine Timmy not playing a big role tomorrow.
Excited!
Work productivity tomorrow will be horrible... Had about 3-4 coworkers at my office just now watching the end of the game lol...
The Giants have to use Timmy tomorrow, even if it's a split start College/HS like start. Zito and Timmy have contrasting pitching styles too so it works out fine in that regard.
This won't forgive his abysmal years as a Giant (even this year was exactly like 2010, where he was viewed as terrible, except for the run support) for Zito, but it will go a long way in changing perception. Zito is a great guy to root for too.
