Hmmm well Smith is pretty good.

Smith = Hemsky in terms of value

But,

Pelley >>>>>> Hartikainen

.....Oilers need to add.

I would do;

To EDM: Smith, Pelley

To ANH : Hemsky, Eberle/Hall/Jones/Horcoff (Your Choice), Hartikainen

Good value?

Anaheim says no. Hemsky's contract sucks and he's declining.

Hemsky only had one bad year and is still just 29. I think it's little early to say that he's 'declining'. However, the Ducks can't do this deal simply because it puts them way above their internal budget. The Oilers would have to take some salary back. Also, right now there's only one top six wing spot open and the kids should get the chance at that. I think this would make more sense once Selanne has retired.

Please, no threads involving Hemsky. Every time someone makes a trade thread with a player, their perceived value on HF goes down a little bit more.

The Oilers would be much better suited to let it ride and see if Hemsky can return to being a near-PPG player, and no other teams are gonna trade solid assets for such a volatile risk/reward player.

Exactly.

Between the Schultz thing and Penner offersheet, I wouldn't expect the Ducks and Oilers to even consider trades with each other.

did we say thank you for the second rounder for Cogs?

btw--why do you guys hold the schultz against us? I think there was tampering by a Canadian club, but not Edmonton

While there's no reason for us to make this trade, I don't get the sense that we wouldn't because we think Edmonton was the guilty party here, if there is one.

Can't blame EDM for Schultz leaving Anaheim. Blame Ducks management for not getting the situation sorted beforehand. (Oilers trading Riley Nash before he reached UFA).

EDM keeps Hemsky, unless they get an upgrade type deal. They are done going younger I think.

We need the veteran presence in our top six, and Hemsky is a brilliant top six player when Healthy.

For Hemsky straight up I'd do it.

Smith-Pelley-Gagner-Yakupov would be a more balanced second line for us IMO.

Plus it stops Hemsky or Yakupov from having to play on their off wing.

You always don't think anything Oilers is good enough.

I do not see any ream doing it. Edmonton would love DSP though

no one even knows who Hartikainen is outside the Edmonton Oiler organization/fan base it seems. Hartikainen is a beast.

I wouldn't trade Hemsky straight up for DSP until he can prove something.

The thing that worries me about Hemsky is the type of injury he's had. He tore his labrum in his shoulder as a result of contact, not repetition or wear down, so in all likelihood he's got a Bankart tear. And the thing about those is that:

Quote:
Statistically, the chances of a second dislocation the shoulder are greater than 80% in patients younger than 30 years of age. (link)
This is the kind of injury that follows someone throughout their career, and can never be totally fixed through surgery. That's why everyone's scared off of him, and why he doesn't have any trade value here.

The link doesn't mention how effective surgery is. Hemsky has had surgery on both shoulders and I've heard that shoulders are supposed to be like brand new afterwards. I'm not a doctor and I'm skeptical about anything related to Hemsky's health but I don't think it's fair to say, after the dual surgeries, that theres an 80% likelihood of recurrence. That was only BEFORE the surgeries. Now there is a significantly lower risk. I could be wrong on the overall effectiveness of shoulder surgery.
