My thoughts ran to the Pittsburgh series when I saw that. To be fair, EVERYONE wants to punch Crosby in the mouth. Especially after his cheap tactics in that series.

As for the tough guy mentality, he only uses it so often. He's building up character that may have him become captain soon enough. But he doesn't need that mentality anyway, he's got players like Hartnell and Simmonds that will throw down. But it doesn't hurt, and comes with the territory.

And I'd say I'd hope that maybe Leighton would forgot what side of the road cars drive in Europe, and then he gets hit by a bus, but as my friend continually reminds me, the bus would likely just find it's way through his five-hole.
There was not one bit about that post that didn't make me laugh

I'm impressed with ESPN on this one. We have fallen 15 spots during a lockout.
Incredible. Let me guess, Burnside did the rankings the second week?

Wait a second, you're telling me that it was actually LeBrun who dropped us down the rankings? That's very odd.

Burnside hopped on our bandwagon after the Flyer series. He had us beating the Rangers and Kings.... I think he's doing it to piss us off. As a FU for all the flack we give him.

Apparently Hasek has retired again. Start up the clock for the Hall of Fame, finally.

How can the Devils be 20th on anybody's power rankings? As of right now, I'd say the Devils should be around 10th.

Didn't Hasek retire last year? When was the last time he played in the KHL?

I remember Hasek was going to retire every year from like 01 all the way until he finally left the NHL. He even said two years in advance once he'd retired, and didn't stick to it. I know he ''retired'' that one time after 02 and came back.

At least Marty, and Hasek won't be going into the HOF the same year. That would really suck for both of them.

Pretty excited to hear Steve Levy call a game again, always enjoyed listening to him call some of our playoff games in the early 00s

These teams barely forecheck, I understand its a bigger ice surface, but a bit too much standing around and waiting

Chara is the only one throwing hits

The NHL is probably loving this boring 0-0 tie being America's first look at the KHL, and on ESPN no less.

Wonder what the viewer numbers will be for the KHL game that gets re-aired on ESPN2 during the evenings.

But he also made it clear in an hour-long meeting with the Toronto Star’s Editorial Board that the longer the NHL lockout lasts, the less happy the players will be playing under a salary cap.

“If this goes on for an extended period of time, I don’t know what they (the players) are going to do. But I think it’s safe to say, they would be exploring all options,” said Fehr.
He added the players can live with salary cap if an agreement can be reached quickly.
“Where the players are, they want to make a deal,” Fehr said.

“Even though the
owners’ proposal went as far away from the players as they could, the players did not respond in kind. They made a proposal which moved in the owners’ direction. If there can be an agreement in a relatively short term, which puts the pieces back together and gets the season going, I think the players can live with that.”

No cap = No guaranteed contracts (And hey maybe a contraction or two thus a smaller NHLPA)

Well, we can rest assured the viewer numbers will definitely be higher than the NHL's viewer numbers.

Obvious news of the day:

http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/blog/ey...man-as-commish

ESPN Poll of anonymous NHL players shows that 100% of NHL players polled would rather have someone other than Bettman be commissioner.

I'm curious what would happen if fans were polled. I know Bettman gets a lot of flack, but I really have no idea how many (if any) fans are totally satisfied with what he's done.

Gary Bettman, Bill Daly, Don and Steve Fehr will talk before the cba talks session. Still no core-economic on the agenda.

Bettman has been great for the league in every facet other than labor talks...who knows where the league would be if it wasn't for the lockouts.
