Looking for a new fishbowl or shield/cage combo - recommendations?
Looking for a new fishbowl or shield/cage combo - recommendations?
My fishbowl is all kinds of scratched up, so I'm getting ready to get a replacement. Any suggestions?
I'm currently using some old Itech thing, and it has been fine, if a little heavy. It fogs up sometimes, but the fog usually goes away after I've been on the ice for 10+ seconds.
I'd like something light that doesn't fog so much. Other than that, I'm really open to suggestion. A full cage is totally out of the question. It has to be either a fishbowl type setup or a shield/cage combo. Thanks!
EDIT: Also, a question: What's the advantage of a cage/shield combo as opposed to a regular fishbowl?
For me the fishbowl turns into a big fog chamber and gets super hot and stuffy with no air flow. The combo makes for more air flow, less fog, less heat, easier to breathe. That's my experience. But I hate fishbowls so I'm biased.
I've never used a fishbowl, all I know is that they're ugly as hell. A nice cage is the black/white Bauer one. The one that Itech made before. White on the inside and black on the outside. Good vision and a great look.
Edit: Didn't read the op well enough. I think you should go with a combo. The reasons Jarick wrote are good enough.

This. And the combos also look much better. Though I'd take full cage if I were you...
I just can't do the full cage, the bars bother me way too much. I'll probably go with the combo based on these recommendations though. It's only $3 more expensive anyway.

I respectfully completely disagree haha. I wear a window and love it. I put hand soap from the bathroom on it, rub it in with a cloth and it wouldn't fog up even if it was in a steam shower. I used the bauer fishbowl.
I wore a Bauer 920 Combo for awhile. The only issues I had were people couldn't hear me talking out of it and I would lose the puck in the black cage part at the bottom of my periphery. Pain in the butt.
Never had fogging issues really. You get a nice breeze through the cage but nice visibility out of the visor.
I bought the Bauer 920 combo. Spendy but I think it's well worth the money. I used to wear an old Itech combo shield as a kid, and as crappy as it was (bought it used) it was still my favorite. See well and breathe well.
I don't understand the point of these. They're just fishbowls with the outside areas colored. Why would you want that? If you're going to wear an all-plastic fishbowl, wouldn't you want it all to be clear? Otherwise your view of pucks at your feet is obstructed for no reason other than style.

I've always been anti-cage, just couldn't do it. Tried to make the switch multiple times and just couldn't get used to the bars. Drove me nuts.
Then I decided to play down on a second team in a division that required it. After 4-5 games, I stopped noticing it entirely. Now I don't even think about it.
I never thought I could get used to a cage, but I just think it requires committment to taking the time for your brain to adjust and then the bars just seem to disappear. I was a half shield zealot and now I don't think I'd ever go back to it.
