That, and who knows who the Suterise couple of 2013 might be.

Niedermayer actually went to arbitration in 2004 though that Summer. I think he knew he was leaving too.

I don't blame him cause he left to go play with blood, and didn't leave to some perennial loser team that hadn't won a playoff series in 8 years, after talking about winning being the most important thing. He also turned down more money from us so I don't blame him.

Speaking of down the road..

Back in Albany, Henrique honing leadership skills

Henrique, a Calder Trophy finalist last season, wants to be a captain in the National Hockey League. He wants to be the player young guys look to for guidance. He wants to be the voice of a team -- the pulse, the guy that the coach leans on.

"A few years down the road I want to be in the position that Zach Parise is in -- that's how I look at it," Henrique told NHL.com after playing in an American Hockey League preseason game for the Albany Devils. "Hopefully a few years down the road, some kid will be sitting in my spot and I'll be teaching him things."

Optimist in me wants to say that phrase echos on the prior and on being a Captain of a competitive team.
Cynic says "I want to be able to cash in on my pay day on the FA market, too"

Anyway, that aside... since the captaincy debate is always interesting.
It looks like Henrique wants that C on his chest (Not immediately, obviously)

Oh no Adam wants to go captain Zachy in Minnesota No but really it's nice to see a player of his age striving for such a goal. Can't say I'm surprised though, people only say good things about him.

Ya, I understand what he's talking about, but he definitely said it in the scariest way possible for us.

Definitely a good thing that Henrique wants to be a leader on the team though.

Well, trading for Taylor Hall is going to be difficult. Edmonton seems set on keeping him.

Disagree. I think they're sending him to the AHL.

Do you guys think we should do a ranking of all the players on e current team?

I just desperately need some hockey again, however a lot of people don't like comparing defense to forwards and so on.

I would be down to do that as well. I'm really enjoying the current polls we've been doing.

I've been bored, figured that would give people a reason to check here daily and hopefully comment more.

Had some decent turnouts number-wise for the polls.

By the way, the guy in the Paajarvi for NJ thread asked what we'd be willing to give up for Gagner.

I said Tallinder+pick or prospect, and he said what kind of pick/prospect, and seemed interested. I thought I'd hear the whole Gagner is underrated spiel. Would you acquire Gagner for that price, what prospect would you be willing to give?

I think Gagner is definitely underrated. I'd throw someone like Urbom in there.

Although I'd rather that NHL d-man be Volchenkov.

How many points in a row did he have again? 12? Stick him on a line with a really experienced vet like Kovy and who knows what they could do together?

I like him too, I think Bozak is terribly overrated by Toronto fans but terribly underrated by fans of other teams. He's another player I'd love in return for Tallinder.

I didn't remember Urbom, but yeah, I'd totally do that. Gagner has stalled right now at 40 points or so, but he is still young.

Gagner could still break out. He has it in him.

Btw. am I the only one who noticed the difference between him and his buddy Kane? Gagner`s maturity level is so far ahead it`s not even funny.

I'm not particularly high on Gagner, but I would trade Volchenkov for him.

Gagner is someone I wouldn't mind having on NJ. I love Volchenkov, but if a deal could be done to send him in part of a package for Gagner, I wouldn't mind that. Gagner has upside and can be a good player; he's shown us he can produce in the NHL.

I don't like Volchenkov's cap hit, and length pretty much. I'd be happier if he had Tallinder's cap hit. Never had a problem with him aside from when he cost us against Florida because he was on Mars. He might have been injured though, and if he was I can't fault him.

I'd like to get rid of Tallinder. If not just because he's a lot easier to get rid of. Probably the easiest aside from Andy Greene, who I feel has a better future here than Tallinder.

If we do a poll on current Devils, my heart is going to break. I can't do it. I like everyone on this team.

Gagner is also the kind of cerebral, creativity-based player we could use up front.

I wouldn't mind Huselius. What's he doing now? If he's playing elsewhere we probably can't sign him. Unlike the NHL guys going to Europe, he won't have an out clause for when the lockout ends.
