I've never heard anything about what they're doing with the arena. Is it getting the serious upgrade it needs?

According to other plans I've heard. The whole thing is being renovated and cleaned up. The roof in particular is getting a much needed replacement.

Nothing more than superficial though I'm afraid.

The south side stands have been torn down and will be completely rebuilt.

The north side stands will be refurbished and the whole thing brought up to standard.
There will be a striking new roof.

WHy would anyone care in Whitby? But it s is a big relief for us in Ottawa that all these delays have finally come to an end.Looking forward to football and soccer etc at Lansdowne.

Also the CFL has a long history in Ottawa and in Canada and is lots of fun to watch .
Except for wanna be Yanks of course who can always attend the Bills games in Toronto.

Parking and transportation is what is going to make Landsdowne a success or failure.
I frankly cannot see the Shopping area be a success if one has to pay to park at the shopping centre, when every other shopping centre is free, accept for Rideau Centre, and how many people actually drive there to specifically shop.
I read somewhere there is only approx 1000 parking spaces at Landsdowne, how can the shopping centre expect any customers if the parking lot is full on game/concert days, or visa versa where are people going to a game/concert etc.going to park if the parking lot is full of shoppers.
There are only 2 main roads around Landsdowne, Bank st and the Driveway both are 2 lane roads, Bank st is bad on a normal day what is it going to be like on a game/concert day, will they close Bank st down on these days and allow only buses, it's the only way it can work, then you will have to park at Billings or Carleton and commute.

Sorry i cant see it working and in 5 years i can see it being a white elephant.
PS i am an avid soccer fan, and would like to support the team there but i doubt i will if there are all the hassles that i think there will be.
PPS I believe Landsdowne could have been made into a great area with lakes and restaurants and tourist attractions but not a shopping mall/sports complex

Relax and enjoy and look forward to the soccer,.

Lets see-there will be a green park and the beautiful new refurbished stadium for soccer and football and university sports and concerts and special events-lots of restaurants and shops .Sounds good to me.
Don't think there is really any room for a lake there anyway, besides its just around the corner form Dow's Lake.

Actually, the biggest joke ever is the ratio of your comments that start with "get off the bath salts, folks" in your post history.

I admire your dedication to Bath Salts Awareness, though I wish you had chosen a more constructive social illness to champion.

Thanks, but I think we, the people of Ottawa, would rather not take advice from someone living in the armpit of Canada.

What I'm saying is Whitby sucks.

What I don't understand is how quickly people forget that there has been a stadium there for a long time.. Why do people think it's going to be a logistical nightmare all of a sudden?

I had Rough Rider/Renegade season tickets and the place always had around 20K to 25K, which is what they are predicting for this new team..

We never had problems getting out and most people walked anyway and just parked further down from the stadium..

Do people not remember that there was a stadium there for the past 100 years? How is it all of a sudden not going to work, when it's worked in the past just fine?

And remember it's 9 games throughout the summer, it's not like this is an everyday/night thing...

There are 9 home games/year in the CFL with the occasional concert (which typically take place in the evening outside of peak shopping hours) so I don't think you're going to see much of an overlap in terms of those crowds.

The reason you put other retail at Landsdowne is because the stadium itself lies unused for a large portion of time.

Diane Deans needs to get tossed ASAP. Same with Holmes and Chernushenko or however you spell it. They're all clowns.

chernushenko serves a purpose, no matter what happens you can count on him to speak up for the environmentalists, and that's a good thing to have (one of, and only one of) in the council.

homes and especially deans, not quite sure what purpose they serve.

I think people forget that more often than not, a ward counselor is nothing more than a mouthpiece for his constituents. Clive Doucet was a huge villain to the Lansdowne project, is it such a surprise that his replacement (Chernushenko) is voting the same way?

You say Chernushenko needs to go, but assure you that whoever replaces him is going to be an equally royal pain in the ass as well in regards to all things Lansdowne (and I like Chernushenko in most areas other than Lansdowne). Unfortunately, Capital Ward is one example where it's not the politician's agenda that reigns, it is that of the constituents. Chernushenko, like Doucet, is just there to represent the views of the people who voted him into office.

It also doesn't help that Deans is the main reason Algonquin students 20+ are not allowed to have a student bus pass.
