Due to the lockout I'm going to my first ever Rochester Amerks game next Friday. Do you guys know if it is easy to get parking close to the arena? Do you have to pay?

If you show up early enough you can just find a street to park on around the arena. I went to almost every game last year and never paid to park in the garage, for the opener I'd probably try to get there by 5:30, 6 at the absolute latest if you want to find a spot on the street. There's also parking garages and a lot across the street which are probably around $7 to park, like I said I never use them though so I'm not positive on pricing.

Last time I parked on the bridge right outside the arena on the street, no problem.

I'm not going to the opener, I'm going to the game on the 19th, so hopefully it won't be as bad. Thanks for the tips! By the way, if anyone wants to meet up at the arena that night, I'm game. Keep in mind I'l have my 5 year old and 3 year old with me so I probably won't be up for drinking a whole lot.

My on street parking recommendations:

Obviously the closer to the game, the bigger the crowd the harder it will be to find parking but you shouldn't have to pay. I moved away from Rochester a few months ago, I picked the wrong season to leave the Amerks

Disappointing, I thought they'd show a lot more than that.

Guess I'll just stick to junior hockey for the most part.

It's sad that there were so many MORE Amerks games on TWSNY BEFORE Pegula took over. I really hope something better is done going forward. Very disappointing that in this lockout season there aren't more games.

On streets parking was free though Im not sure of the rules now that they implimented the parking meters on all the bridges...though for 2.50 you get like 2 1/2 hours of parking time so even if it costs money its still cheap.

The garage that connects to the stadium via tunnel was 7 last year too park in.

There is a lot to the right of the stadium that is easy walking distance that was 5 last year I believe, its a huge lot that goes all the way under the next bridge.

There are also several small lots in the area that charge between like 5-10 bucks depending on the lot.

I usually do the lot on the right for the simple fact I hate screwin round in the parking garage with other people following the game, its much easier to exit when not in the garage, though in the winter that means braving the elements whereas the garage connects to the stadium and you dont go outside.

I usually park in a lot right across the stree from the war memorial. There's always a few spots open. I think it $5. I could be wrong, though.

Yeah, I remember that most games seemed to be on when they were affiliated with the Panthers.

I get that they probably want more people to come out to the games, but you'd think showing the majority of games would help generate interest.
It's probably not the best decision economically since it'd likely cost more money to produce the games than revenue generated, but you can help build the brand for the future.
The economics shouldn't really matter since Pegula apparently doesn't care about losing money..
Really disappointed.

Is Girgensons now a lock to be on Rochester's opening-night roster and stick in the AHL this season? Or is there still a chance he could be assigned to the WHL's Kelowna Rockets?

The plan appears to be to keep him in Rochester for this season.

Unfortunately it looks like he'll be starting in Rochester, but I won't lose hope until the deadline passes to assign players back to juniors (around the NHL trading deadline).

The thing i`m worried about Girgensons playing in AHL is that his offensive game wont develop as much as it would if he were to play in WHL.

You and me both, but it's not a popular opinion around here.

Hopping on the Amerks bandwagon because of the lockout as well. I got a group together of seven friends and family (plus me) to go on the 23rd. Should be fun, can't wait

I'll be at the game tomorrow. I figure it'll be a nice pregame and feed my hockey craving. Should be fun. I haven't been to an amerks game in a couple years.

You'll see a lot of good talent, too. In addition to some of our guys, you'll get to see Brett Connolly, Cory Conacher, and Vlad Namestnikov, among others.

Per Kevin O of the D&C:

"For the record, Jamie Wise has been released from his training-camp tryout with the #Amerks."

Some people have mentioned parking in the Civic Center garage(the one that connects to the BCA). There are a few nights per season when parking is only $5. Friday's home opener is one of them.
