It's been reported many times if they agree on the core economic parts of the new CBA, it will all come together extremely quickly. It's not impossible to say they get a deal struck soon after the agree on the core economic parts are settle, I just don't think it will happen until at least November.

NHL, NHLPA RESUME TALKS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT DAY

Quote:
NEW YORK, N.Y. - At least they are still talking.

That seemed to be the best thing that could be said on Wednesday after the NHL and the Players' Association met for about five hours on the first of at least two straight days of talks in an effort to work out a deal to end the monthlong lockout.

Although it has been a week since the NHL called off the first two weeks of the regular season, that sting will be felt full force today when what should have been opening day goes by the wayside without a puck hitting the ice.

The sides met twice on Wednesday and will get back to the bargaining table this morning. If things go well, or if the scheduled work can't be completed, there could be another day of talks Friday.
Quote:
A four-hour session stretched into evening and included miscellaneous legal topics. The health issues involved seeking multiple medical opinions on injuries, and who should make determinations when a player is healthy enough to return to action after being hurt.

"We have some disagreements in those areas," Daly said. "When you get to this point of the discussions on some of those areas, that is to be expected, so we're kind of refining some of the things we continue to have disagreements on.

"We had no discussion of the major economic issues or system issues, so that continues to be a disappointment from our perspective."

There are still no plans to delve into how the sides will split up hockey-related revenue that was in excess of $3 billion last season.

It is really striking. In most cases, the two sides are eager to curry public favor. Here, they seem eager to out-compete each other for ineptitude.

Why bother releasing a statement at all if everyone is going to read it and say "Why the hell aren't you talking about the only things that (really) matter to getting a deal done."

The idea is both sides have proposals, they put them out at the same time and negotiate... the problem is that would actually make sense.

Once they start debating annual gatorade allotment for the players we need to lock them in and unleash the bees.

By good news do you mean how the Blue Jackets took the all star logo off their arena? Elaborate on the good news please, because I am not seeing any.

I would think under any cirumstance the All Star Game will be a casualty to fit more regular season games in.

Yeah, the All-Star logo coming down could be viewed as a good sign that something is being discussed.

Wasn't there discussion a bit back that the NHL was going to propose a season complete with 82 games in a condensed format a week or so back?

The All-Star Game would be an obvious casualty.

And the news out of the meetings today is poor.

No new CBA talks scheduled because of conflicting reports. Looking like this will drag on and on and on and on and on and on until one of the sides finally puts aside their ego and makes a solid proposal.

I'm sure it's been said around here, but my guess is the Winter Classic is opening day.

I don't know, the NHL has said they'll cancel the whole season if a deal isn't reached by Thanksgivingish

Did they? I know Howard Berger claimed that, but has anyone reported it? I've been spending most of my time at the hospital so I haven't followed recent developments.

Whoops, I thought Daly said that.

It remains unconfirmed, then. Good luck with the healing!

The owners have the players by the balls. Unless the players cave there will be no season. If this is not settled by Xmas it's over for 12-13.

No, the owners will lose millions in revenue through not having a WC. It's not rocket science.
