San Jose does not believe in using the ECHL to develop skaters. Based on some things I heard over the summer I was expecting that train of thought to change, but it appears they have not veered from that philosophy.

yikes, that does not bode well for player development. How do they expect a marginal AHL player to develop if he's playing 20 games? I'm sure you understand this, excuse me for venting at how stupid this appears to me. I can know more understand some of your past posts on Mgt with W Sharks.

I agree w/ Wilson that the ECHL is not really a good place to develop skaters.

That said, having 4 (I'm assuming) healthy forwards sitting every night isn't good either. There's a couple of WorSharks that probably should be in the ECHL but I doubt it'll happen.

Well, Reid's hurt and Bonneau is still suspended for four more games. Out of those 17 forwards, 5 of them are rookies which is kind of a lot. There's more time to send them down when the regular guys get back in the game.

Season opening rosters

Including:

Quote:
Thomas Heemskerk, G; Taylor Nelson, G; Mikael Tam, D; Martin Lee, D; Trevor Hendrikx, D; Chris Frank, D; Scott Langdon, D; Sacha Guimond, D; Jordan Morrison, F; Kevin M. Baker, F; Matt Carter, F; Alex Tuckerman, F; Hans Benson, F; Justin Bowers, F; Kris Belan, F; Dean Ouellet, F; Jordan Clendenning, F; Peter Sivak, F; Thomas Beauregard, F.

Reserve Dylan King, D; Jonathan Lessard, F.
Injured Reserve Chris Lawrence, F.

One thing against ECHL as development league -- they have a strict roster limit. So, unlike AHL where there is none, guys are stuck on reserve list if they don't fit the roster.

For another, they seem much more into "performance" (win now, game experience) than development.

ECHL hockey is fun to watch, but it's not very good hockey. They don't teach a whole lot of structure or positional play to their players and the level of competition is pretty poor. It's just my opinion but it's not the best environment to develop skaters.

I went to a Stockton Thunder game a while back and thought I was watching Midget hockey ... never again.

I'm getting pretty antsy for tonight's game. What time do they open the doors at the Cow Palace?

True but this is an organizational decision and could easily be rectified by the Sharks.

The way the orgs players are coached - sure, they might be able to do something about that though the owner, GM, coach of the Bulls might have something to say about it.

But the Sharks can't do anything about the level of hockey that's played and playing against quality competition is an important part of player development.

Worlds collide. Ran into #sjsharks GM Doug Wilson and family here at Frys.com Open. Update? He'll be at SFBulls opener tonite.
#Sjsharks GM says he's returning to Cow Palace to check out prospect G Thomas Heemskerk and D Mikael Tam.

Me too man. I can't wait. They are opening the doors at 5:30 tonight. USUALLY 6:00, but tonight is special I guess. The game is sold out according to the Bulls' facebook page. Apparently they are opening up some seats in the corner section as well. Who wants to sit in the old, rickety wooden seats!?

I'm really looking forward to more Bulls vids. The last one from opening night was done very well. A packed Cow Palace will be a sight to behold. I'm loving the idea of hockey being played in that barn again.

Looks like the Bulls' PR department was bored today

"PETA Stages Protest; Tonight Sure to Create Fireworks"

Ironically, this will actually make PETA come and protest

Yikes, that's just asking for it. I know they're trying to get some LA Kings-like edge, but some people *cough* PETA *cough* have proven time and time again that they lack a sense of humor. Hmmm, maybe that's the humor in it all?

PETA is too busy taking on Pokemon right now to deal with an ECHL team. But they have a long memory....

This thread is too Bulls centric. Who cares about them? It's all about the baby Sharks' first game tonight. Prospects, baby!

listening to wtag.com -- heard a blip or two of Sharks stuff, then a lot of non-Sharks stuff (some political).

Is radio/feed working?
