The lockout could last as long as 2 years I couldn't care less if it means less of Scott Gomez.

He was released? Cause he was in a cage or something?

Maybe he should think about getting in shape practising some MMA. I'd pay a lot to see his ass kicked haha.

Alaskans are no impressed by his "skating". Some "source" say: "he just skate and skate and skate and does nothing. It was horrifick for Alaskan children". Goverment had to intervene and the Gomer thing had to be sent away.

if that poster indeed said he was an elite puck mover, that poster would be absolutely correct in his opinion.

his problem has always been what happens after he gains the zone, but g-love IS an elite puck mover

If Gomez was earning an annual NHL salary of 1 million playing in a place like Columbus very few of the comments here in this thread would not only not be posted but not too many people would even know who Scott Gomez is.

I do not care for Scott Gomez as a player on the Habs but there are plenty of teams out there where he could fit in as bottom top six forward. That said, if they are to resume play this year he likely will not be back at the NHL level because of his contract, he'll go the route of Redden. If this whole season is lost, he might be tradeable next year to a team that will need his last remaining year of his contract to a team needing to reach the salary cap floor

Ahhh Scotty... Our good old one trick pony. Takes the puck behind his blue line, flies through the neutral zone, enters opponent's zone, makes bad pass/weak shot in goalie's chest/loses the puck.

Me and my kids cheer for ALL the players on the team. Because that's what TRUE fans do.

If he was making $1 million ANYWHERE, he would not receive the flack he gets. It's already a known fact that the biggest knock against him is the production =/= salary.

I don't know if that is true. Look at the flack Mathieu Darche gets - many, if not most fans don't think he belongs on the team. Not enough offense, not good enough defensively, not physical, too old and blocking a kid. And he certainly didn't make the big bucks.

Well, Scott Gomez for the last two years has put up very Mathieu Darche-ish type numbers. Check the point-per-game ratio, and then consider the different ice-time and linemates they each get. Production-wise they are about the same. Gomez can't produce as a top 6 player, he's not strong enough defensively to be a defensive specialist, he brings zero grit or physicality to the game, and he's old enough to not have any more potential, thus he is blocking a kid.

He'd be criticized just as much if he was making $1 million if you ask me.

I think the insurance money on his deal must be something like $20-30k per month (similar to quoted value for Lundqvist), so that must be getting a little steep for a team that already has a few NHLers to cover? Even if Gomez did want to play there. He won the scoring title in 2005 there... I'd think that would be a fun thing to try for again for him. Too bad. You'd think it would be a good confidence booster.

I don't know where you're getting this information from regarding Darche receiving flack from fans. Never have I heard anything negative to what heart, desire, effort and loyalty he brings to the Habs and especially for the low NHL pay that he receives.
He was offered a 2 way deal to which he turned down and they consequently told him that they weren't going to require his services going forward.
Which younger players ice time are you suggesting that he's taking from when he plays ?

If he was making a million a year, we wouldn't criticize Gomez. You know why? Because he would be gone already.

Gomez didn't want to get embarrassed putting up bad numbers so on the advice of his agent, he requested to be released.

If Gomez earned $2.5M per how much of a backlash would he get?

Moving the puck between the two blue lines only to lose it? It doesn't impress me.

Still quite a lot since he's not an NHL caliber player and we gave an exceptional 3rd liner plus a stud Defenseman for him. The cap hit is just the final piece of the disgustingly embarrassing puzzle.
