Your team is respected because they won 2 straight President's Trophys and are the only contender north of the border and it's been that way for a while now. Certain people just don't want to acknowledge that because the Canucks used to be seen as a franchise with very little success but are nowa juggernaut (sp?).
The Habs get respect/admiration/envy for being the most glorious team in the history of all sports. All other teams are measured relative to the Habs. They are the face of the NHL and the other teams essentially exist to offer opponents to the Habs. The other teams are basically the randos who play the Harlem Globetrotters. Without the Habs, there would be no NHL, and in order to keep others interested in hockey, we have to intentionally suck to level the playing field.
Haha, that`s solid, after the circus called 2011/2012, I would have expected a less...shall we say, brave assessment of your favourite teams value.
No team has the history of yours as far as success since inception however, tis been a looooong while since they have had any, ya may want to temper your view of them
Rangers because of their insane depth.
Flyers because of their insane forward depth.
Red Wings because of their recent history.
Habs because of how well liked the team is.
Edmonton because of how good they'll be in 2-3 years.
Ottawa because of the defensive core that's being built there.
Winnepeg because of it's upcoming all stars like Kane and Schiefle.
Minneasota because of Parise and Suter, and their sick group of new prospects.
Colorado solely because how sick Landeskog is, he'll win the Mark Messier award in no time.
Florida because they have Tallon and some insane prospects like Nicky Bjugstad, Howden and so on.
LA because you. ******* you guys, your team is awesome.
Anahiem because they still have a sick core of players and sick prospects like pelley, etem and some euro center prospect coming up.
San Jose because their always competitive and yet somehow produce Logan Coutures out of nowhere.
Washington because they are 2-4 building blocks away from a championship, they have talents that very few teams possess.
Pittsburgh because of the obvious.
Pheonix because they somehow contend with half of everyone elses assets.
Bruins because of their insane depth.
New Jersey because of how committed their organization is to be competitive every year through prospect implementation, drafting and FA signing.
Islanders because they have Tavares who is gonna be right close to Stamkos and Toews Ina few years.
Dallas because they somehow produce superstars every 2-3 years, something the Canucks cannot do.
Tampa because they are well run and own a Stamkos and Hedman. 2/3 important core pieces.
I think thats it. I dont think Columbus, toronto, or the flames have any redeeming qualities.

I'd argue that one of the best Captains in league history plays for the Flames. I'd wager that there isn't a single fanbase in the league that wouldn't take Iginla (even an aging one) on their team.
Ottawa:
Uhh there's a few reasons but I guess for having so many young guns that were able to step in and help bring us to the playoffs last year, like Cowen, Smith, Turris, Greening, Karlsson (if he counts), Condra, JOB, etc

If the Habs have been intentionally sucking, you guys have been doing a fantastic job!! Keep up the good work!!
As for the Bruins, they are envied in the league for being the bullies of the NHL. They aren't just a bunch of knuckle dragging neanderthals (Lucic, Chara, Thornton) they have high end skill (Seguin, Rask, Bergeron) and a mastermind behind the wheel (Chiarelli). The Bruins have proven themselves to be champions and with the majority of the young core in place for at least another 4 years, it's understandable why some fans may be envious of such a well tuned machine.
People are envious of the Panthers because you can get parking, hotdog, beverage, game program book and tickets to the game ($40) for the same price people in Toronto pay for parking and nothing else.
I think the Hawks get a lot of **** for winning the Cup so quickly after sucking for so long. People really want to see them fail now, which makes no sense to me after all of the horrible seasons and drama we had to deal with as fans. But then they will just say we all started following the team a couple years ago, so nobody gets to enjoy it now.
For the Islanders it's definitely the 80's dynasty being one of the greatest hockey teams ever assembled. Other than that? Knocking the Pens off in 93 was pretty cool.
For the Rangers? Having all the money to spend in the world and playing in an arena and a place that will never have trouble selling out no matter how the team is doing
I personally think the Habs should have an *asterik near that "25 Cups" banner.. They won most of their Cups when they (the Montreal Canadiens) owned the Canadien junior leagues, therefore having Canada's top prospects funneled into their system through the back door.. shady politics.

I think the Hawks generally seemed like one of the more likable recent Cup winners.
About your last point though, this was pretty sweet:
Winnipeg... for having the loudest building in the league... (possible exception to the Bell Centre)... and (for the most part) coming up with the most creative chants.

Yankees have something to say about that.. also if you want to look at runs the celtics won 16 championships in the span of 30 years.. pretty impressive. They are obviously the greatest hockey franchise. Thats can't be debated. But in the history of sports.. they aren't. The sad thing is i think you're kidding but you sound like most habs fans.
Toronto: You get respect because through all the crap, the fans have never strayed for a minute.
Vancouver: You're envied because of the city you're in and the current winning atmosphere.
Calgary: You're envied because you have a Cup and Jarome Iginla.
Edmonton and Ottawa: Are envied due to their crops of youngsters.
Montreal: Is respected due to their history.
Canes: respect/envy our tailgating tradition, it's basically big time college football meets hockey. also some respect for deep playoff runs that come seemingly out of nowhere.

Almost as impressive as Montreal's 16 Cups in 26 years!
I think most Habs fans would admit the Yankees are more impressive, though we are definitely the most successful NHL team of all time and that's why other team's fans envy us.

lol... The territorial rules were the same for every team. Each team had the right to prospect players from their area. Not our fault if the french canadians were the best at that time.
Guess what it's still hapening today. It's called the Olympics. So you want to erase the chineses medals in diving? Yes it's unfair!!! China had territorial rights to get the best divers in the world, the chineses! The rules are the same for everyone that's it.
Buffalo: Because we have a beer shelf in the mens room, Zambonis with lasers, a sick statue of the french connection getting unveiled tonight, and some of the nicest locker rooms in the nhl. Also, Miller's wife.
