I can see how some of you fellas might get whipped up over something as contentious as which beer to drink.

I myself got into a heated argument last week about the proper way to draw the number 8. A friend of mine insisted that you had to draw two small circles (like 2/3 of a snowman) rather than a figure eight.

I could have killed him. Instead, I only bit off his ear.

Fine then. I'll go to the Oilers board to discuss beer.

Cry me a river, pal. Big Rig was discussed for 7 pages, there's really nothing more to know about it.

This.

There isn't more to say about the Big Rig that hasn't been said. The food is mediocre, the service is mediocre, the beer is better than mediocre but not excellent (yet).

So I never did manage to get my hands on Pumpking. That makes me very sad. Nightmare on Mill St takes the winner's spot for best pumpkin ale I tried this year. Or at least most pumpkiny while still being good. GRH Pumpkin Ale was probably the best all around.

I had another bottle of the Garrison Oktoberfest. It wasn't infected like the first, but... meh. Nothing to write home about. I drank half and put the other half in a turkey pie.

I tasted and smelled (in my....you know) Pumking for a week after I had it. Still great, though. I've been seeing it at most Ottawa LCBO's I frequent recently if you're in the area.

Also for those in the Ottawa area - http://brewerymarket.com/ottawa-brew...rgest-one-yet/ - should be great. Beau's Greener Futures selections alone will be worth it.

They already have a best and worst beers thread in the lounge, but i don't see anything wrong with discussing anything Big Rig related here.

rumour has it that since being locked out of the Sens' training facility at SBP, Phillips has ballooned to 290 lbs. Friends are now referring to him as "The Big Pig".

I also saw him eating breakfast at McDonald's a few weeks back. The Big Pig indeed.

Twice As Mad Tom should be all over the city throughout today. I picked up two cases of it earlier from Kanata Centrum. An excellent addition to the Ontario beer scene, and not quite the PNW hop bomb you would think it might be. Pricey, but worth it.

So, Great Lakes 25th Anniversary Black IPA has been out for almost a week now. I highly, highly recommend it. Just finished my first bottle and it's very good. Perfectly balanced, and so dangerously smooth and creamy it's not even funny. It's like...chocolate hops, but not overpowering nor too sweet. I'll be going back for a few more bottles to keep around.

How does it compare to Flying Monkeys Netherworld Cascadian Pale Ale or Dunham Black IPA?

I've always thought Netherworld is quite one dimensional and lacks a little in the hop department. It's slightly bitter, but that's it. Dunham is much more comparable to the Great Lakes offering. The major difference between the two being the mouthfeel in that Dunham is a bit more carbonated and heavy. Dunham is malty up front with a hoppy finish which I love (comparable to what Tree Brewing did). Great Lakes is the most balanced overall. They all smell real nice, that's for sure.
