Palat wins it.

This season will start the same way it started last season, as winners of the Mary Brown's Cup

Did you all hear that? I opened a north facing window just now and thought I heard someone yelling "I am a NHL player!". It sounded a bit like Alex Killorn's voice. Next time you're outside turn an ear to the north and see if you can hear it too.

Clearly, the Peterborough Petes did not see their situation improving any time soon. It's rare to see a major junior team oust its general manager after the start of the season, let alone this early, but former NHLer and TV analyst Dave Reid is out, as per Sunaya Sapurji's report, after two-plus seasons in which the Petes posted a 48-84-4-6 record on his watch.

This was clearly a situation where something had to give, to paraphrase Petes captain Slater Koekkoek from last week.

Just ordered my Season of the Crunch on AHL Live. $149 for 76games streamed to my computer, sounds good to me.

From what I've read he's been tremendous. Let's hope he can keep it up!

According to Crunch general manager Julien BriseBois, Connolly’s presence in Syracuse should benefit him both in the short term, as well as in his long-term development.

“There a number of quality players in the American Hockey League this year, and that competition is going to give Brett the closest thing to NHL hockey this year,” BriseBois said. “There have been a number of instances in which established NHL players have been assigned to the AHL, and they went down there and took on bigger roles and played more minutes. They then became impact players at the NHL level. We don’t see this situation with Brett to be any different.”
Quote:
“There is certainly going to be a benefit, even for those who already have NHL experience,” BriseBois added. “He’ll get a chance to play in all types of different situations, and he’ll be looked upon to be a leader coming from playing in Tampa Bay last season. Even though he will start at the AHL level, this should be looked at as a very important year for him.”
Quote:
“Coming into this year, I knew I needed to make an impression,” Connolly said. “I felt like I needed to change a lot of things not just in my game, but off the ice like learning how to be a professional. I think right now playing in Syracuse will give me the best opportunity to do that, so I’m looking forward to improving as a player down there in my own game and contributing in any way I can to help that team win.”

Went to the Crunch event last night to pick up my season tickets. This is the first year that I can recall the Crunch having something like this. Usually we just pick them up during a preseason game. Ticket pickup (obviously) but they also had schedule posters available and a number of players lined up to sign them and get to know the fans. The ice was open for a free skate and some of the other players were out there for that.

I was only able to stay for a little bit so I'm not sure if they rotated the groups of players signing/on the ice. But all in all a good way to kick off the season.

Getting real excited for Saturdays home opener. Once we all get to see them play you'll hear from us a lot more.

“There is always going to be competition. You don’t want things to be easy. To make it to the top, you have to leap those guys,” said Tokarski, a fifth-round pick by Tampa Bay in 2008. “I don’t like to waste time thinking about that. I perform on the ice. I believe everything happens for a reason.”
Quote:
Tokarski, who came to camp the most fit Cooper said he’s seen him, continues that tedious march this season, motivated as much by those who have come over to his side as by the few who still doubt him.

“I’m always trying to win. I’m always trying to prove people wrong and prove people right,” he said. “A lot of people believe in me. You get on the ice, you have to play like it’s your last (chance).”

In case you guys care, Rochester's projected lineup for their game vs Syracuse tonight (hey, we're all bored without NHL hockey):

Luke Adam - Cody Hodgson - Corey Tropp

Zemgus Girgensons - Phil Varone - Evan Rankin
Nick Tarnasky - Rick Schofield - Maxime Legault

Brayden McNabb - Mark Pysyk
T.J. Brennan - Matt MacKenzie
Joe Finley - Alex Biega

Vasilevski is the only bolt in HF's top 50

Quote:
42. Andrey Vasilevskiy, G, Tampa Bay Lightning
Height: 6-3, Weight: 210, Not ranked

No player probably benefitted more from the 2012 U20 World Junior Championships than goaltender Andrey Vasilevskiy, who posted a .953 save percentage and two shutouts in five starts for Team Russia. Possessing prototypical size and athleticism for his position, Vasilevskiy has a strong glove side, good anticipation, and generally good technique. The big Russian remains far from a finished product however. His post-to-post movement needs improvement as does his blocker side. He also sometimes has difficulty recovering from bad goals. Expect Vasilevskiy to spend two more seasons in Europe before making the trip to North America.
Also here's a link for a possible stream for the first Crunch game. I'm not sure if it will work or it's just a placeholder, so we'll have to wait and see, but hopefully it works.

Not sure what they are thinking. Apparently they put more stock in the logo on the front then the name on the back as they say about Norfolk at #8 "Come on, they won the AHL last year, they had to be included in the top ten."
