Coleman is coming on. It's only his sophomore season too. I think he's flying under the radar amongst Devils fans, he even had 23 points in his rookie season.

Coleman is in for a huge year.

Sucks that Matteau was suspended. He probably would have racked up some points in that romping they put on.

Just got back from the Miami game and Coleman had another nice game tonight. He scored a late one as we started running up the score but also added an assist by driving hard to the net. He wasn't as physical as he usually is but made his presence known every time he was on the ice. He is playing on one of our top lines with a 1a/1b type situation with a very young crop of players (14 underclassmen) so he should have a huge year.

Our future 3rd line seems to be doing just fine this year. What I would give for this line to work out:

Coleman-Josefson-Pietila

Ok, Ive done my research for the year. On draft day, it had been said a few times that there were many similarities between Damon Severson and Shea Weber. Both played for the Rockets, and put up almost identical numbers at the same age (Seversons were actually better by a slim margin). After watching highlights for both players, I think theres a CHANCE he could end up as our Shea Weber. Their scouting reports are also basically identical, I went back and found Webers. Before everyone flips out on me and starts calling me an idiot, im just speculating and guessing here. Im bored because of the lockout.

Severson has to develop still. He could turn into an elite defenceman, or he could end up as a mediocre bottom pairing defenceman, or he could flop entirely. We simply don't know yet, and projecting his career that far ahead without seeing him play several times is tough. I'm optimistic about his chances though, he is a promising prospect.

Some interesting stuff on Matteau.

Comments from Armada blogger. http://twitter.com/anthonystelll

Quote:
I honestly have to say that my impression changes as he plays more games. At first he really seemed like a secondary player, as I had the expectations that a first round pick would dominate the game and league but that wasn't the case. He still put up points and scored some goals, but wasn't as much of a force as I had expected. That being said, he's really turning into an effective power forward as the games go on. He's starting to play a more in your face type hockey and it's working.

His emotions have come out in certain games, going after various players and getting involved in scrums and fights. I have witnessed many players stick an elbow out and try to take his head off, but I think that comes with the territory of being a high profile player. The type of style he plays will cause his emotions to take over on many occasions. One instance for example was vs Quebec, he and a Quebec Dman Ryan Culkin were at each other all game, Matteau dropped his gloves but Culkin didn't and Matteau still engaged in the fight and continued to punch until the ref's broke it up. He was kicked out of the game and Quebec got a 5 minute power play.

In terms of Matteau and adding to the Armada's goal scoring I'd say he's a big part. He might not get many points but he's a key component to the power play as he stays in front of the net and is a big body on the boards. It still is very early in the season, but in his first season in the league he has four goals, four assists in nine games. That's not too bad.

Something I found interesting that happened last night was Brian Burke(GM of Toronto Maple Leafs) was at the game and Matteau played one of his best games I've seen. He scored, fought, threw big hits and was a complete force. I kept my eye on Burke, and after Matteau's hit and fight Burke was on his phone for the rest of the game. Every time Matteau was on the ice after Burke would sit up and watch him. He really played the type of hockey Burke likes. Just an observation.

Please fleece Burke. Between Matteau and Clarkson I think we could extract Burke's grandchildren.

He's got that upside.

While he may not develop everything Weber has, especially the beard which will be pretty hard to replicate, he could still be a Duncan Keith player. I don't know, it'll be exciting to see because the top-end potential is still there.

On Matteau, the pick looks real good for Lou right now, they knew what they were doing, and I, for one, like how fiesty he is, even if he does cross the line at times.

I was thinking about that..... but what do we want from Toronto?
There's not much on that roster that I covet other than recent high draft picks, Lupul and Kessel... which would not be on the table.

Maybe excess draft picks, since we need them?

Personally, It would be with pleasure that I welcome Mikhail Grabovski for Matteau +.

If Burke trades for Matteau, I want a first so we can dump our pick with no loss, plus a little more to compensate us for the year of development we miss by delaying our first rounder.

This generation of Devils fans needs to witness its own Kurvers for Niedermayer moment.

And the Leafs haven't dumped a lottery pick for a mediocre player in almost 2 years. Their fans are starving for it too. It's win win!

Precisely. It's a deal written in the stars.

I meant for our own benefit.
Toronto is notorious for making the wrong trades at the wrong time.

We must reap the benefits once again. We're in a division with GMs who've made a mockery of trades in the past and turned fleecing into an art form.

Our turn.
