Bouwmeester played in '99/'00 as a 16 year old with a late birthday so he wasn't drafted until 2002. Played in three World Juniors before being drafted.

Craig Button had some nice words to say about McDavid last night, kind of putting him in a really high stratosphere. Havent heard him praise a player as much as him, including Nugent-Hopkins, MacKinnon and Yakupov. He said if anyone comes to challenge McDavid in 2015, the only comparable would be a Guy Lafleur - Marcel Dionne type situation like in 1971. Pretty high praise for a player 3 years before his draft.

How old was Gretzky when he played at the U20? Now Gretzky was never drafted I know (you got to write every detail it seems or somebody will call you out on it) Was Gretz 15 or 16 the year he played?

And for me... a 16 year old starting junior is two years from being drafted. This current year..and the following year. by my math that 2 years. ))) Others can count it up as they see fit. )))
Gretzky was 16 and still led the tournament in scoring. Pretty amazing.

Boumeester made team Canada as a late born 16 year old, which gave him 3 years of WJC before being drafted.

He is, I believe, the only player to play for Canada 3 times at the WJC prior to being drafted.

Tavares was one of the final players cut when he was 16, which would have given him 3 as a late birthday.

That must be the reason for the JBo curse: the only player with 3 WJCs.

from tsn...
"Over on this side of the pond, there's been a lot of hype over Connor McDavid, who was given exceptional playing status in the OHL with the Erie Otters and is still two-and-a-half years from being eligible for the NHL draft.

And why was he given exceptional status? Because he IS exceptional.

Connor McDavid is already transforming the Erie Otters franchise with his presence and his ability to do so many things. You talk about mind speed and the ability to make those around him better - that's what Connor McDavid does.

He is a franchise-defining superstar. If there's a 15-year-old out there that's as good as Connor McDavid right now and going into that 2015 NHL Draft, we're going have a situation that I've only seen one other time - back in 1971. That's when Guy Lafleur and Marcel Dionne went first and second overall.

McDavid will only get better as time goes on and he is everything as advertised."

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=407200

a few thoughts: you aren't going to hear a 15 year old rookie whos played 7 OHL games getting called a 'franchise-defining superstar' very often. especially not something that Craig Button says about players. He usually just says theyre the total package or they are a great player.

Not to read too much into his Guy Lafleur - Marcel Dionne draft comparison, but its interesting that he said that a McDavid and someone just as good 1-2 in 2015 would be "a situation that I've only seen one other time" (Lafleur-Dionne). That rules out Malkin-Ovechkin, Heatley-Kovalchuk, Stamkos-Doughty, MacKinnon-Jones and so on. This would seem to indicate just how highly he thinks of McDavid.

1 assist on the night in another Otters loss. Still waiting on a big statement game, but he keeps his point streak alive at 7 games.

He's waiting for big Dougie Hamilton and the Ice Dogs and that's when he'll explode for his ''big'' game. Revenge shall be sweet lol.

He was the best player on the ice tonight, I was at the game, he stands out. He is very slick with the puck and you can see that he moves to where the puck is going to be. He should have had 4 points on the night easily

Still waiting on his statement game but has a 7 game point streak.... anymore rookies in this league with a 7 game point streak???

15 year old being consistent is more impressive for me then a 4 or 5 point game... the kid burned what could be a top pairing for the Penguins last week...

Agreed. This guy is 15, he's just getting his feet wet. He's something special for sure.

Eh, my post didn't come out so well. Obviously I think a 7 game points streak is a statement in itself. There aren't many kids who can do that, let alone a brand new rookie. He doesn't need to have a big 4 point game to convince people how good he is, but it just seems like one of these games it will happen if his team can just convert on their chances.

1 assist in a 4-3 loss to the Steelheads. Point streak kept in tact at 8 games.

Looking forward to watching him play on Friday night on Sportsnet against the London Knights. Hopefully this whole national TV thing doesn't go to his head. If he finds the idea fun, we should see a good game from him.

yes, perhaps I should've been more specific and said Anglo-Scot or Anglo-Celt... anyways, my point was, it's super white, lol. Nothing wrong with it obviously, just teasing... it's funny though. Super generic British/Canadian name.

Josh Yohe, the Penguins beat writer went to watch him play and raved about this kid picking apart Scott Harrington and Olli Maatta. He is making comparsions between Crosby and McDavid. How Sid wears 87 and was born in 1987. How McDavid wears 97 and was born in 1997.They are both Left Handed Centers and awareness was the biggest thing he saw and compared.
