The best thing about Carlson is he grew up a Devils fan apparently. At least he'd be a guy we wouldn't have to worry about ''Going home'' when he became a UFA.
Ya, it's too bad he's not going to be a UFA for a long time.
No use crying about it now, but of course me saying that isn't going to stop anybody from continuing to complain about it.
Just got home from the game. Took a ride up there with a couple of friends. What a weird town. Found a decent bar and grill down the street.
+'s
Bar
20 bucks to sit 3 rows behind away bench and give these guys hell.
Hbranenkos (I don't care how to spell his name) nasty hip check.
Larsson looked real aggressive.
Jay leach seems like a good leader out there.
I think (I could def be wrong about this though) Matt Loughlin was the PA announcer?
Overall good speed from most of the team
-'s
Hbranenkos 2 brutal botched one timers on a power play
Whichever Zajac was playing looked awful. Stone hands and cement in his skates. Terrible.
I have to assume Larson can not be happy about leaving beautiful Sweden for the Albany devils.
I would've liked to have seen a little more dominance from henrique and josefeson
Whatever garbage broom hockey was going on after the first period.
Power play looks god awful.
Overall it was def worth the trip. The drive really wasn't bad at all. Had a lot of fun.
Saying you wish we took Carlson is like 29 other teams that wish they took Weber before the Preds did in the second round. And countless other talents.
I kinda had a feeling Tallackson was a 2nd rounder, but wasn't completely sure. From what I saw of him, he looked like a dude they picked up off the street in a tournament. A guy who was benched in a roller hockey tournament that is!

**** happens. Move on.
Not quite. But yes moving on wouldn't hurt. Although this is a message board and you don't have to read what people discuss either.
And The Hrabaranka or whatever looked pretty decent from the glimpses I saw. I fell asleep halfway through the 2nd though. Seasons young.
call me crazy but i dont wish it at all. i liken it to lemieux/muller draft. the devils would not be the devils as they are today if they **** the bed like the pens did to get 66.
steeltown is a ****in disgrace to hockey.

It just proves you have to suck to get good, and being consistently powerful will get you nowhere but mediocre stuff except for a few select teams IE Detroit who hasn't had a pick higher than 19 in like, 20 years

i disagree. a team need not suck to get good. the devils have been at the top of their game for many years. didnt need a tank job to remain there either.
top 20 picks (actually earned*) are rare for them. being consistently powerful got them to the SCF last season while on the way paving a road over division rivals. but of course you already know about that, right.
4th larsson '11 (thank maclean for that one)*
20th josefson '09*
20th zajac '04*
17th parise '03 (moved up from 30th to 22nd then trade to 17th)
10th lance ward '96 (what a brutal draft year all around the league)*
17th sykora '95*
the model of tanking to win is a myth to me, it can be done without it.....although pens somehow pulled it off...... oilers will prove it doesnt work next.....unless they move some forwards for Dmen to succeed

The key is development. Develop prospects properly and you won't need the top draft picks.

Although sometimes there is no substitute for raw talent. The Devils needed to acquire the high drafted Stevens and Niedermayer in order to become successful, even if they weren't our own picks.
That said, I'm pleased that Lou has been finding ways to acquire top talent by hook or by crook while never sacrificing competitiveness.

People just harp on Carlson cause he's a Jersey kid, that's why.

I think it also has to do with Lou passing on a really solid 3-zone defenseman at a time when the Devils really really needed one, instead opting for the boom-or-bust flashy forward talent (a left-winger, to boot) that didn't seem all that necessary.
EDIT: That came off really snarky and sarcastic and I didn't mean for that.

And the fact that we all knew he was a Devils fan as a kid. Everybody likes that story, and Lou didn't let us have it.
