Wow has Murphy had a bad start. 0-1-1 in 8 games while going -7. Hopefully it's just a fluke. Anyone who watches Kitchener games have any insight on his start?

That's actually pretty alarming to see. He just got named captain and he should be dominating but he's playing the worst hockey of his ohl career based off of those stats. I thought he had a real good shot at making team Canada this year but not if he doesn't turn it around.

watched a bit of him so far. hes dominant out there, but nothing is really going in for him yet. hes out there all game, so hes gonna take his share of minuses. hes just doing everything himself, which rarely works. he looks like hes playing at a different level, and he isnt lazy. usually skates himself out of position. nothing to really worry about.

nothing i saw suggested hes playing his worst hockey. no luck yet. actually ive seen him go end to end and put a great shot on a few times, and his teamates couldnt bury the rebounds.

im not a big fan of hockeystreams over gamecenter at all, but in times like these its a helpful site. lots of ahl and junior games, as well as khl. all on demand for 20 a month.

Didn't he start off last season really slow? Then wound up putting up an insane statline for the rest of the season?

well i only watched one game so far, so its hardly a big sample but hes pretty raw. his style of play from the game and the parts of the hitman games ive watched is that hes a laymans mix of patrik berglund and paul stasnty - both in terms of style of play and how he skates. hes skating in mud compared to everyone else, but he has very soft hands and great awareness of everyone around him. the lack of speed has his brain going very fast about finding his passing options, and when he passes they are right on the money. very skilled. very slow. he struggled to keep the pace, but i imagine he will adjust in time and find a way to make it work.

both he an welsh really looked like they werent quite up to speed yet. the experienced ahl'ers like terry, boychuk, dalpe, samson, bowman - those guys were aggressive and comfortable. welsh at first look was a disappointment. much like rask with much less skill. in the third period he started clicking a bit better, and showed some signs. neither of these two looked like guys ready to challenge for a third line center spot in the nhl yet. still hardly convinced welsh is a center.

My opinion of Rask is that his skating is below average for sure, but I don't know if I would say he was slow. At least, not slow enough to disqualify him from his top prospect status. There are guys that you look at and wonder if they're hopeless because of their wheels and Rask isn't that guy to me.

As far as positives, his stickhandling and hand eye are off the charts. His passes are also scary accurate and he thinks the game very well. He receives pucks with soft hands. There are guys that chop at the puck when they're changing lanes or crossing over and there are guys like Rask that look like the puck is doing exactly what he expects and he can carry the puck effortlessly without kicking it around or looking down too much, which is about as underrated of a puck skill as there can be. It may be intimidation by the level of play, but it was evident in the U20's last year as well, but he's VERY quick to distribute the puck to the safest option which doesn't scream playmaker to me but he does have the skill to do that as his game evolves. Lots of touch passes and safe outs. He will probably need to become bolder with his puck choices as his career advances in order to create more offense.

Well, Murphy decided to go +3 with 4 assists last night. Crisis averted.

Someone on the Prospects board was saying that the team didn't even have a consistent practice schedule due to renovations the first few weeks of the season in their stadium. I think that could also have something to do with the slow start.

Can anyone here tell me why Justin Shugg keeps getting sent down to the ECHL?

I want to say that management wants him to get significant icetime, which he doesn't really get when he's behind Boychuk, Dalpe, Samson, and Terry for top six wing spots. From what I've read about him he seems like he wouldn't really thrive in a bottom six role.

* - Ellis is on contract with Charlotte, not Hurricanes property and by no means a prospect.
Collier leads the EJHL in scoring so far, though he has a 3 game advantage over #2.
di Giuseppe is off to a hot start with Michigan while it looks like Olson might be taking over the starting job with Ohio State based on the early play with the goalies splitting the series.
Murphy and McGinn's offensive slumps seem to have let up in a big way. And Lowe and Carrick have added some nice offensive punch to go with their already solid physical variety punch.
Dan Ellis want return a NHL, he want return a Cane

Dadonov seems to be doing pretty well in the KHL even though his team seems to be one of the weakest in the league right now. He currently ties the team lead in points and goals scored.

Yep, Osala's having quite the nice season in the KHL too. Seems to have carried over his production nicely from the end of the season last year.

I just noticed that disgraced former Boston University player Corey Trivino is lacing them up for the Everblades. He was having one hell of a Senior season before his.... indiscretions. I wonder if this lockout is providing the opportunity for Carolina to safely explore his talent. I remember around the time of the draft that Trivino and Dalpe were ranked very closely together coming out of Junior A.

Gregory Hofmann doing great things in Switzerland.

i am really impressed by his improvement in this season: he looks like another player.

He is the best f in the team with Nash and Thornton

the pass at 1.30 is a beauty

Good to see Boychuk and Dalpe doing well so far, as well as a nice rebound for Murphy the last few games.

Has he been on a line with Nash and/or Thornton? Oh, and that pass was absolutely gorgeous.

If I'm reading the lineups at NLA's website correctly, hasn't Hofmann played only two games with Thornton?
