Physical bottom 6 winger to leafs

Obviously there is a lockout, and I know leaf threads like this just get beaten to death, but hear me out.

There are countless proposals of a number one centre and goalie trying to come to the leafs. I think we can all agree that the centre trades have never been agreed upon from two sides, and realistically these number one centers won't be moved.
As for goalies it's a slim market but could happen.

But this thread is not about those two positions, it's more about me thinking that the next main thing the leafs need is a big tough phisical bottom six winger. I think it adds a department the team really missed.
So let's hear the offers!

Not terribly big, but Clutterbuck is likely to be available either at the trade deadline or or next offseason due to prospects like Bulmer and Johan Larsson being close to ready.

I don't know how physical we need the winger to be, but we definitely need an extremely talented defensive winger for our third line. Hansen in Vancouver is the prototype I'm talking about (and no he doesn't even need to chip in that much offence)

Clutterbuck would be great! Some minny fans are pretty reluctant to move him. If he was available the leafs would probably be willing give up some good prospects or picks. If it was a roster player then mccarthur may work, probably with something else.

Yes, Clutterbuck MIGHT be available but it does indeed depend on how prospects like Bulmer and Coyle progress. If they're not ready by next season, I see us re-signing Clutter.

Dear lord I would love Clutterbuck. I'd overpay for him. That guy is just a beast, and a perfect fit for 'Burke's style'.

Agreed, he still will be a RFA so if they aren't ready he will be resigned. But once they are ready, something has to give with the roster. And Clutterbuck is probably the most trade-able asset.

It should also be noted that after this locked out season he has one more RFA year(baring CBA changes). So its getting to the point that they are going to either need to sign him longer term(buying out some UFA years) or trade him and replace him with Bulmer. I would imagine he would get a significant raise to buy out UFA years and a lot of teams would come after him if he was on the marked after his last RFA year. I think its likely he is moved in the next offseason or before.

Threads like this one really make me appreciate that we have Moen, Prust and White next season..

For the Leafs, how bout Brandon Mashinter or Boilig from Chicago? Macdermid and Clifford are 2 other candidates.

Clutterbuck is going to be up for a big raise next summer. He's part of the Wild's core, but if a team steps up and makes a strong offer, I think, for the first time in his career, the Wild would consider trading him.

Why not just wait on Brad Ross?

You only really need 1 or 2 players like him though. I think he'll turn out like Clutterbuck.

More for fantasy purposes - what would you offer for Kyle Clifford?

But Burkie LOVES Bertuzzi...

Plus Bertuzzi could "protect" Kessel.

If you prefer, if can be Bertuzzi+two of Miller/Eaves/Mursak+3rd= Phaneuf

Bertuzzi also could probably do well on Toronto's second line next season.

We have no room for one right now, and we have plenty coming through the pipeline.

I hope Burke starts kicking the tires on Brenden Morrow. Bring some of that "grit" and "leadership" that Morrow provides on a regular basis with his Stars team.

.....*snicker*

You mean in 2008, when Burke basically had to choose between keeping Bertuzzi's $4m hit or letting Niedermayer come out of retirement?

Burke would have kept him if he could, and even said he felt TB could still play and be effective at the NHL level; that the Ducks were merely handcuffed by the cap. Buying out Bertuzzi was the only way to clear enough space and remain a top team. Bertuzzi scored 38 points in 71 games last year, compared to 40 in 68 his one year in Anaheim. Burke would certainly take him - especially at half price.

I'm surprised to see Minny fans offering up Clutterbuck to be honest.
