It's the collar of a soldier's tunic. Above that you see the shadow under his jaw and chin, and immediately above that you have the bottom of his mouth. He's facing right.
I've always though, that the Ottawa Raftmens would be the best name for a CFL franchise since it keeps the "R". And Raftmens is all about the origins of Ottawa/Gatineau. The name is english only but has been used a lot in french on Gatineau side. A few nostalgics may recall Raftmen bar on St-Raymond, Hull.

I was onboard as soon as I heard the historical reasoning behind the name. Nevermind the teasers, which have an elegance in their simplicity, colours and style.
Highlanders works for me on a historical level, but I like the Spartans because it keeps with the Greco-Roman politics thing this city is currently enjoying with the Senators.

I like the JS presentation but I don't like the highlanders name. The military history is interesting but can be found all over Ottawa history.
For a couple of reasons, I'm not sold:
-The Highlanders conotation implies Scottish and there are as many Irish in Ottawa as Irish, especially on the QC side/
-The R factor.
-The billingual name factor.
At first glance I prefer:
#1 The Ottawa Raftsmen
#2 The Ottawa Royals (as in Royals from WW1 but also the RCMP.)
To me #2 is the strongest and the black, red and white color them is bang on.
Regardless this process is fun and I look forward to screaming my face on on the new and way better South Side stands.
While it's true Teddy Roosevelt's guys were known as "Rough Riders", I believe that the term "Rough Riders" used for the Ottawa football team was derived from our lumber history. The men who brought the lumber down the Gatineau River were called "Rough Riders".
Anyway, I don't mind the Highlanders name, and I think the history posted was cool, but would prefer something with an "R". Raftsmen fits the bill nicely.
Uniform must be Red, White and Black no question. The Riders tried Blue, Red and Gold I believe and it was just ...wrong.
I just personaly associate the R to the Rough Riders. It's as if the Sens folded and a team was brought back years later called the Centurions with the same logo...
