Halischuk? Young guy, scored 15 goals last year, hits hard, etc. Would want a good D coming back (not Franson, before you even ask). Maybe JM Liles? not sure what you guys think of him.

Yip for very little.
Hornqvist could be had, but would be pricier.
I'm surprised you want nothing to do with Franson, but would take Liles. Obviously he's more experienced and has a nice contract for a few years, but I personally would rather hold on to Franson (supposing we can actually get his ass signed)
EDIT: WOW was not even thinking of where he came from... it's been a long day at work
Not saying i would but what would the leafs offer for clifford ( the kings have 6 lws ((brown penner gagne king clifford and richardson)) someone is going to have to go IMO)

Don't know how he has progressed, but he wasnt better than Ellis when he was on the preds.
Leafs are fine for bottom 6 wingers with size/physicality
Leafs have already got
-Brown
-Frattin who should only improve in his 2nd season
-Kulemin who will most likely be dropped to the third line with JVR now on the team
The last thing Burke needs is to spend assets (picks/prospects) on a bottom 6 unless it's an elite 3rd line center like a Bolland type.
Kulemin - Connolly - Frattin
McClement - Steckel - Brown
Kulemin is obviously debatable but he hits like a truck and brings a two-way game to a line that would be used for the purpose of shutdown. Frattin can hit like a truck also, he just doesn't do it enough. Once he gets his physical game together, he's the perfect third line winger. Connolly is obviously not ideal because he's like glass but McClement can slot in there too and balance it out more. Then we got Brown who is an effective fourth liner while Steckel who isn't entirely physical, brings adequate fourth line duty.
Then through the pipes there's Ross, Biggs, Devane, D'Amigo, Ashton and Komorov. I don't see why we should trade for a bottom sixer, in my opinion.
I think people saying we don't need another physical player forget how pushed around we were last year. Yes even non leaf fans can't deny that guys like Ross, biggs, broll, and devane will be physical tough bottom sixers. But there is no way there ready even next year.
The defense is somewhat big so Carlyle will make them play physical, and yes lots of our forwards hit, but there's no real forward you say " wow keep your head up when that guys on the ice".
This doesn't have to be a guy that's young and we have for like ten years more. Just a guy that can make a impact in those tough physical divisional games.
The clutterbuck, morrow, yip, clarkson and Clifford suggestions make a lot of sence.
Also jet fans is thorburn available?
Not terribly big, but Clutterbuck is likely to be available either at the trade deadline or or next offseason due to prospects like Bulmer and Johan Larsson being close to ready.
clutterbuck would be great for the Leafs but why do we need bottom 6 guys?
McClement
Brown
Steckle
Bozak
Frattin
Connolly
Lombardi
The real question is.. why the Leafs would pursue another guy like this...
Do the math... they've got 5 centres who all deserve to be NHL regulars. Bozak, Connolly, Grabovski, Steckel and McClement. Of those, one is going to have to play the wing... which means there's 7 spots left. Kessel, Lupul, JvR, Kulemin and MacArthur are going to take 5 of those. Mike Brown is as reliable a 4th line winger as you get, so he'll take another. You've then got guys like Nazem Kadri, Matt Frattin, Carter Ashton, Joe Colborne -- guys who if they're going to develop, need to play.
I understand pursuing a guy like Brendan Morrow because of the leadership he brings with the ability to play in the top of our lineup if needed, but to go after these pure 4th line guys makes no sense.
If the Leafs are going to start burning assets, it's gotta be in an area that actually helps the team. Right now, they've got only 3 legitimate top 4 defencemen. They're relying on a young goaltender who's coming off a terrible year. His backup is an even older, less experienced guy. Their #1 centre is Tyler Bozak.
There's a reason that most of the threads involving the Leafs are for a #1 C or goalie, it's because that's what they need.
I'm surprised to see Minny fans offering up Clutterbuck to be honest.
That's just the situation. Some Wild fans say Clutterbuck is untouchable, but (1) he's going to be asking over 3 million/year next summer, (2) the Wild have a lot of prospects pushing for top-9 winger spots (Coyle, Bulmer, Zucker, Larsson, etc.), and (3) he plays a different game than our 3rd line center Brodziak (checking vs. possession).
The Wild aren't looking for move him, but if the right deal is there, it wouldn't blow my mind.
Last thing we need is bottom 6 right now. We have depth. But if Clutterbuck is made available we should be all over it. Guy is a beast. If we can ditch either Connolly or Lombardi it would be optimal.
