Hmmmmmm, maybe, or they might be more national than municipal. During my meeting with the Camerons, they showed us a plaque given by the mayor that recognizes them as Ottawa's Regiment. Can't remember if they're the only one though, but they're the "official" regiment for sure.

The GGFG is most assuredly a local regiment, they were raised from Ottawa and recruit only locally. During WW1, Guards served in the 77th Ottawa Bt and the 2nd Eastern Ontario Bt .This is one of the two regiments my family has traditionally served in, the other being the Hasty Ps.
They are every bit the local regiment the Highlanders are, with the added duty of being a Guards regiment.
On the ottawa coat of arms is a member of the Civil Service Rifle corps
The 1st and 2nd companies of the Civil Service Corps became the 1st and 2nd companies of the GGFG.
edit: btw I'm not arguing against your proposal, just the idea of them being Ottawa's only regiment I find laughable.

Again official and only are two very different things, considering there are 4 Regiments in Ottawa.. used to be 5 before the the PLDG folded years back.

As for the CFL team personally I heard this other idea once about Rifles or Riflemen which I thought felt quite right.

Yeah, in a perfect world they would be called the Rough Riders and rock the big white R, but my opinion on that differs from others: To me the R will always be the Rough Riders, and I'm not a fan of using it with another team name... As I've said before, it's as if the Sens left town, came back, lost the rights to the name Senators and called themselves the Centurions to use the Senators logo... For me it would be a big no-no and I feel the same way about the R.
It's a shame though
Oh and thanks for the compliments for the jersey, glad you like it but much of the credit goes to the very board who really gave the big push to make it go viral in Ottawa and beyond
Also, if they do come back with the R, I'll be a fan for sure as I love the look and historical reference, but the association between it and the new name I won't be a fan of, as great as the name may be

I like the tribute to first responders, but I'm not convinced in it as a team name. The "Responders" just don't really inspire any fear as a name.

I'm sure Chicago hockey fans aren't miffed that their team name doesn't represent them. Or that there are Fighting Irish fans out there who aren't from the Old Country.
It's like they have to spot the other team 7 points.

Its why I indicated JS was way ahead as usual. I like the tailgate ideas and maybe we could still look into that but Highlanders, the way its been teased, sounds outstanding.

Obviously, its similar to the old name. Saskatchewan can call themselves the Green Riders if they want. And its a good name too. Remember the Black Riders from Lord of the Rings? Wouldn't you want them on your football team?
