I would much rather have Rielly if I was trading Subban. I'd pass on Phaneuf, not a fan of him at all.

This awful for the Habs not to mention Phaneuf's caphit at 6.5M kills any possibility of the Habs doing this. The only way this would be fair is if the Habs threw in Gomez as a cap dump.

Phaneuf is a better defensemen than Subban.

Regardless, neither team considers this trade IMO.

Phaneuf > Subban
2nd > Prust

And we have no room for Prust.

Long story short, no.

Not sure why either team would even consider this tbh. Of course, I expect most Habs fans to overreact here.

Montreal gets some veteran leadership and grit with Phaneuf plus a good pick in a deep draft. Toronto gets a top pair dman and Burke-guy in Prust.
Dude... you crossed the line ...

Id rather have Subban than Phaneuf anyday of the week. Phaneuf is one of the most overrated D in the league.

The Habs are basically trading a younger defenseman extremely likely to surpass Phaneuf...for Phaneuf. Why would they do this?

The Leafs are in a current state of misdirection; we aren't rebuilding, but we aren't good enough. Hence we won't trade Phaneuf given Burke still thinks we're a few pieces off. Why would we do this trade?

The Habs won't do this at all. The Leafs won't do this unless they finally turn their focus to a true rebuild. Then you factor in the Leafs vs Canadiens rivalry and there really is no trade to be made.

Agreed. Subban is a nice player. I like him. But let's take a breath before calling him a "generational talent". If PK Subban played for the Carolina Hurricanes, and not the Montreal Canadiens, it would be straight-jacket-time for anyone calling him a "generational talent".

Subban might be the most overrated player on these boards, which is pretty significant considering that despite being overrated, he's still a very nice hockey player with real good value.

no ****ing way im doing this

if you want an explanation: subban and phaneuf are already close enough in skills right now and i'd give a small edge to subban. now add age to this and subban's proven clutchness in the playoffs. so prust for a second?

not a bad proposal but, naaaaahhhh... keep your captain, we'll keep our chocolate rocket

I do like Subban but we have Gardiner, Reilly, Liles, and Gunnarsson. Why add another PMD? We need someone who is a pure shut down, in your face, big hitter and shot blocker. Leafs need Salvador, Volchenkov, Gill, Hjmarlsson, or anyone else that brings a physical edge to the table.
so... subban?

Seriously though? I think Subban "ultimate" upside is something along the lines of what Doughty's current level is at.
Yeah, his current level... But what about Doughtys upside? After all he's only 22 and who knows how good he'll be if he keeps improving. If Subbans "ultimate" upside is the current Doughty then why would anyone take him over Doughty.

Well to be fair
For Doughty- we would L.A. wouldn't
For Weber- a Big no because he was a free agent at the time.
For Ryan-could go either way
For Couturier not a chance.Rather have P.K. easily.

Phaneuf is the better defenceman. I don't really see why Toronto would do this.

I dont see any reason at all why The Habs would do this. Subban is as good as Phaneuf if not better and still has room to grow.

The 2nd for Prust is interesting but The Habs need the grit so they would pass unless they are out of it at the trade deadline.

Habs Pass

Not happening. No one can replace Dion at all in our team, he's a leader.. No matter how people hate Phaneuf he is actually better than what people make him out to be. Damn sure better than Subban at the current time.

Not to mention Subban very likely would be swapped for a guy who is struggling in their own team. Such as a colin wilson let's say.
