Let`s Have Fun: What style of game would I bring to the Spoked B`s

Tired of all the CBA/Lockout stuff, having fun supporting my University and QMJHL team here but thought I`d toss this out there as maybe, just maybe, it`ll take our minds away from the negative vibes were all feeling in the absence of hockey.

Whether you`ve played at a high level (don`t care if you have or not) or just played pond hockey/road hockey for fun, what kind of game would you bring to the ice wearing the jersey of the ONLY team that counts in the NHL???

Me?? I wasn`t the most talented, had ok hands, coaches appreciated the fact that in spite of my size and less than high end skill, I busted my arse shift in and out, and had no hesitation to stand in front of the net and take a pounding, or go to the corner and battle it out against guys far stronger than I while more talented teammates hung back and were the recipients of my hard work (no resentements though).

I played a gritty game, not too tough (2 fights, killed in both), but was always willing to do what it took to win. I played like Soupy

Have fun

I was a goalie....so I guess I would stop pucks....and sometimes, not stop pucks.

when I played as a d-man/forward....I was as dirty as can be....but an excellent passer.

I'd say my game was a mix of Terry O'Reilly, Stan Jonathan, and Ken Linseman's styles. A little dirty, lots of effort, and playing bigger than I was.

If I was a hockey player, I'd be Daniel Paille. Only not nearly as fast.

I was always a shutdown d-man. I guess when I first started playing I wasn't the most talented so stuck to preventing goals as opposed to creating them. As I developed, I started contributing on offense but overall, I was the "solid in his own end/penalty kill/out there against the top line" Dman. I guess if I was to follow that progression to the pros I would have been a Seids type of player. My teammates called me Adam Foote lol. It's not Bourque or Lidstrom but I was fine with it.

I played both defense and wing, but I'm pretty short so I would probably play wing in the NHL. I guess the style I would bring would be a mix of Recchi and Marchand. I can sit in front of the net and screen/deflect pucks all day. I was also sent out as an energy type player, go hit someone twice my size, get in guys' faces, piss them off. To paraphrase stepbrothers "I was there to **** stuff up"

I would fall down a lot, and drink a lot of beer.

So I see my contribution being similar to that of Dennis Wideman.

I was an average defenseman, I liked to roam a little bit, had a pretty decent shot, and very little mean streak. So maybe a shorter righty version of Paul Mara?

Assistant coach. I am a good "middle manager" and can apply my own thoughts and opinions to a situation while maintaining the dicsipline of a team focus. I can focus on issues that need to be improved while not losing sight of the overal goal.

Did you lift that from your performance review?

I am, in fact, writing and reviewing my department's reviews at the moment.

Let's see I spent two years around the ages of 4 and 6 trying to learn to skate but never progressed beyond pushing a milk crate or a big orange cone so I called it a career. So I see my self as a white Georges Laraque minus size and fighting ability.

When I was playing I was always a defensive player that got under the skin of the of the other team. I did not score very much, but I drew a lot of penalties and had quite a few assists.

Depends on whether I was in shape or not.

If I assume I'm in shape, I'm 6'6"and if I was in shape I'd weigh about 250lbs, or at least that's what the doctor says my ideal weight is, when talking about playing a pro sport I'd maybe weigh in a bit more if I needed to put on some muscle. I could probably handle 270 if I bulked up without getting fat. I'm a BIG guy. Not quite as tall as Z, a bit taller than McQuaid, but a broader frame than either. I dwarf Lucic in every physical dimension. Not a third as vicious though. They'd probably expect me to goon it up, but I'd probably prefer to use my size to crash the net.

That said I'm built for power almost entirely. NOT for agility. So I wouldn't be any kind of skating wizard even if I ever did get the hang of it, so you'd probably find me on a third or fourth line wing doing the big body positional thing and playing "human bowling ball" whenever the coach decided the defensive matchup was small-bodied enough for me to cause a bit of havoc. That when I wasn't in the penalty box for playing hockey while tall, the way Looch sometimes is.

If I'm in my current condition:

my role on the ice would be to die of a heart attack on my first shift.

Never learned how to skate.. for the betterment of everyone involved haha. But if i didn't play my fat ass would be screening the goalie and i'd probabley be throwing my weight around. 4th line grinder type. Even thinking about myself as a player i don't see a good scorer haha.

Swiss army knife of D-men......loved to move the puck forward, was the ultimate shut-down D going up against the other teams best, could get under the skin of other players and coaches (look back now and I pushed the envelope a little too much)

.......and nothing beats the feeling of blocking a slap shot,,,,,I got it down to an art!

Passive defensive forward for sure.

Axelsson, Paille, Kelly, etc.

Best response so far...

I still play a little floor hockey(knees can't handle the skating)...my game has evolved a bit over the years...used to be a sniper, these days more of a playmaker but my shot is still good. In college the guys called me "Shanahan" (though I liked to think of myself as Neely.) These days? They just call me "old man."
