Nashville-Toronto

Hornqvist is a gritty player with a talented touch around the net. This is a player who will go to the front of the net to score his goals. He competes hard and is a good playoff player. He is probably best suited to playing on a 3rd line with 1st pp minutes. His footspeed is not the greatest and he can struggle at times 5 on 5.

MacArthur is more of a playmaking winger than anything. Good puck control, cycles well, good speed and goalscoring ability. Has shown a mean streak at times. His flaw is mainly consistency. He however may be pushed out of the Leafs top 6 with the addition of Van Riemsdyk. He is a solid winger, but may be the Leafs most expendable forward asset.

Some may say this is a lateral move, but these players play completely different styles of hockey. I am very interested to hear different opinions on this trade proposal, particularly from Preds fans. Thank you.

I'd rather keep Hornqvist. Barry Trotz player through and through.

Toronto adds quite a bit but as a Leafs fan, I would definitely consider it.

However, as a Preds fan, I don't want to come near it unless there's an overpayment.

Exactly. For that reason, it's doubtful he is traded unless it is a massive overpayment.

That and Nashville can't afford to take on an inconsistent scoring winger, especially with an already mediocre forward group. They get the job done, but it doesn't ignore the fact that they are average.

I just don't see the point. Mac has proven to have great chemistry with the guys in Toronto, and even if he falls to the 3rd, he'll likely be a very valuable threat on the 3rd with Tim Connolly. If they're going to ditch MacArthur, it's gotta be for a player that addresses Toronto's needs more than him. Another winger simply isn't the answer.

A defenceman would be a better call.

What makes Hornqvist a good playoff performer? Three goals in 24 games doesn't seem too ****-hot to me.

I just don't think Toronto has much we could use. We'd be getting either Kadri or Macarthur and I really don't see the point in that. Kadri is on Watson's tier but I wouldn't trade them one for one. And MacArthur is what we hope Watson turns into worst case scenario. I just think the pickings are slim

Kessel, Gardiner, Phaneuf, Grabovski, JVR, Lupul and Kulemin are easily worth more than Watson. Obviously most of them won't be moved, but saying "Toronto doens't have much we can use" isn't really fair. I would definetly do Watson+ for Grabo/Lupul or a smaller + for Kulemin

1) This one.

2) Because Hornqvist is better.

Hornqvist is one of those guys that teams just HATE playing against, but would love to have. He is a bonafide first line player that parks his ass in front of the net and can take a beating in the hard areas. I wish he was on the Kings, because he kills us every time.

How about Kulemin + Ashton for Hornqvist + 2013 4th/5th

The Preds get a player who can be as good as Hornqvist who could use a change of scenery and a quality prospect for a good second line winger. Kulemin seems like the type of player who would do well in Nashville.

The Leafs round out our group of top-six wingers: Kessel, Lupul, JVR, and Hornqvist, and get more of a sure thing.

As someone who watches all 82 Preds game each season, I can tell you that Hornqvist is not a first line player. He's a fringe 2nd line player. Ideally, as mentioned previously in this thread, he would best be suited on a team's 3rd line with top powerplay minutes. He's got all the hustle and guts in the world, but he lacks the playmaking ability/foot speed to be considered a top line player.

Well obviously they have valuable players, but we aren't getting a Kessel or Phaneuf for Watson. I'm just saying we would be getting a Grabo or Macarthur and I'd rather take my chances on Watson then trade him for what we hope he could be.
