The owner told Andy to fire Castillo period. If Atlanta comes here into town and lumps the birds up it may be very well over for big red and the dog killer. After 14 years it's time to move on. This team very well could be last in the NFC East, or 3rd behind the Cowboys. The owner has to hate seeing his team walk off their homefield under a chorus of boos just like last year.

I know the defense blew those 4th quarter leads this year, and I understand the scapegoat that coaches become, but let's face it: this is not an elite defense. I think the only defender that actually had a great game last week was Nnamdi, shutting down Calvin Johnson in the first 3 quarters. Then, for some odd reason, he's taken off of Johnson duty and look what happens! There is your coaching error. Our D-line has been atrocious: where the hell is the pressure?

Didn't this same situation happen last year with Fitzgerald and the Cardinals?

Yes sir. Colt Anderson being in for Nate Allen certainly didn't help us either.

Who it is or info about him? It's Todd Bowles, who was brought in here to be Castillo's replacement this past offseason many believe. Last season he was briefly named the Dolphins' interim Head Coach.

Very nice. Just saw someone on twitter say he is head coaching material. I didn't know all that much on who he was. Thanks. Hopefully he can get the defensive to play more aggressive.

This won't accomplish anything. It isn't going to make vick a good qb or Reid's offense any less inept

Vick isn't a good QB. Morninhweg can't call plays. We stink!

So it turns out that Reid's decision to make Castillo coordinator was in fact stupid? Color me shocked. I don't understand why Reid still has a job.

Because Lurie is exactly like his defense the past 3 weeks, sackless.

If we had gotten a real DC last year then we wouldn't be stuck with this wide 9 crap, since the Dline coach was brought in because Juan needed the help. You win the game at the line of scrimmage and both lines have sucked it up this year. We are going to see foles at some time, since Vick will never survive a year behind this line. The need to get bad in a good QB draft year, and move on.

Castillo's hiring was a domino effect almost forcing Reid to either fire Juan at the beginning of last year or hire him in some other capacity. Washburn was hired BEFORE Castillo. Then Mudd became available taking Castillo's job. That's when, Castillo became the D-Coordinator. It wasn't Juan who brought the wide 9. That was already going to be in place for whomever they hired as a coordinator.

Washburn, the d-line coach was actually brought in first, we got stuck having to hiring from within in Castillo since no DC wanted to come in and have a system forced on him, especially something like the Wide-9. So really Juan was just set up for an epic failure.

I can't disagree with getting rid of him though since he was never, as Reid likes to say, "put in a position to make plays" But there are so many other facets of this team doing so much worse.

Our offense outscores only Jacksonville, yet somehow is 11th in the league in yards gained per game, we've yielded the 7th most sacks in the league, we're tied with KC for the most fumbles lost in the league - and that number doubles the teams in second. Then there is the disaster that is our special teams unit.

Bottom line, a team that's 3 and 3 and has outscored 1 team all year - defense really isn't the glaring issue there - it's part of the problem with the blown leads and the lack of QB pressure, but if I had to pick someone to go, it wouldn't have been Castillo. Washburn or Mornhinweg would've made more sense. Maybe he's just the first to go.

I'm just not a big "system" only guy. They didn't have the linebackers to play wide9 last year but they did it anyway. Why not look at the players you have and adapt your system to maximize the players you have. Now you have no offensive line, and they are doing deep drops and not rolling vick out. Andy tries to show he's smarter than everyone else with the Juan hiring and completely discounting positions on the field, he didn't need good wideouts in his system for years, then he didn't need good linebackers. Andy is not smarter than everyone else, it's much more likely the other way around.
