To me, that says he was given something with a solid enough foundation to build something off of.

The less initial posturing, as with previous proposals, the better.
This is the basic impression I'm getting. Since his ego is ****ing massive, if the offer is fair he'll probably come up with a pseudo-counter tomorrow where the only difference is like a 1% increase so he can sleep better at night.

It's not realistic to expect the NHLPA to accept this.

NHLPA will make a counter, hopefully the meet in the middle by the weekend.

I haven't sided with either because arguing over how to split billions of dollars is ****ing senseless to the nth degree

If the NHLPA doesn't accept (I'm talking no counter offer either) we'll also see how much of a sob and BS story their video was about how much they wanted to get past a lockout and play

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice
RT @reporterchris: Don Fehr says the NHL's offer was predicated on a Nov. 2 start to the season and would expire if that wasn't possible.

So the NHL offer has a "reply in less than 3 days or get ****ed" label on it. Neat.

That's a good thing though. They're putting pressure on the PA to get things done NOW. NHLPA will have to counter soon or back to square one and neither side wants that.

If they're proposing to start the season in two weeks, they're pretty serious. If this isn't the right deal, the right deal will certainly be based on this one.

See, the thing is that the league wants an 82 game season. If they can't get a deal done within, say, a week, the season's as good as over. If they're going to chop games, the owners may just as well screw the players out of everything they own.

I think it's safe to say that if this proposal gains no traction we won't see hockey until next year at the minimum.

new proposal would make UFA at 8 years instead of current 7
and 4 year ELCs
they kept the 5 year limit

they're going to reject it

Not necessarily. The priority is 82 game season. I read somewhere that as long as things get done by 12/1, an 82 game season is doable, just not as comfortably than starting on 11/2. That being said, they'd settle on a 60+ game season if this falls through. Some money is better than no money.

I think they'll counter propose on some issues, rather than a straight up rejection.

John Shannon ‏@JSportsnet
Free Agency would be at 28 and 8 years of service.

John Shannon ‏@JSportsnet
Entry Level Contracts would be 4 years in Length

John Shannon ‏@JSportsnet
Contract Lengths would be 5 years.

John Shannon ‏@JSportsnet
Arbitration would still exist

I kind of want UFA age to be at 28. Negotiate the contract limit if you will, but that **** better stay at 28.

I agree. The only thing that really sticks out to me is the 5 year contract lengths.

Yeah this is Fehr to me. Sounds like a total move by him. ''We got them to budge a little? I bet we can get them to budge even more if we hold out some more!''

Yeah, that sticks out like a boner in sweatpants. My guess is that it was "accidentally" left there to give the NHL some wiggle room in case the PA doesn't take the offer as it is.

ELCs and arbitration won't be a problem. I don't see 5 year contract limits getting signed off on at all, and I think the FA age and service time is debatable. Something like, the NHLPA will sign off on that if they get something in return.

I agree. Kind of amusing that the NHL proposed a contract limit while issuing dozens of players 10+ year contracts the last few years.

That sound from up North is Canadians cancelling their KHL HockeyStreams subscriptions, promising selves to never succumb to weakness again

You don't have to look back to see them exercising some serious hypocrisy. Snider and Leipold jump out. Snider for signing two players to six-year deals and offering Weber the biggest contract in league history. Leipold for signing two $98M players on one day. They just don't care.
