My bad. The NHL wanted free agency at 10 years in July. Not 30 years old. Those cheating contracts are a joke. NHL wants 5 years. They would take 7 or even 8.
Crazy 2nd contracts will still be part of the next CBA. Arbitration will exist. Add a year to group III. NHL wants the HRR split and contracts length. Daly called that 1A next to HRR.
I wonder which side that guy is on? I have a tough time taking a journalist seriously when they use both CAPS LOCK and the phrase shove it in an article.
What's the issue with Zipay. He's right. This offer expires soon. NHLPA needs to respond quick and get this signed, sealed and delivered.
For one, he's a crappy beat writer who's only gotten worse, argues with fans over twitter all the time, gets things wrong all the time
edit: Also, it puts stupid pressure on the NHLPA to just sign the deal as is. There's no way this deal gets signed as is. Only a fool would think that, I doubt even the NHL thinks it would be signed as is even if they genuinely think they have made significant concessions to the players.
Saying "balls in your court, better sign it now!" is dumb. What the players need to do is talk to Fehr and decide what they want to do, and then go out and negotiate in good faith with Bettman and the owners. There are certainly aspects of this that still need to be negotiated even if the NHLPA does like it in general
I agree with a few of the posters above if the NHLPA just throws this out right away we as fans may lose the season.... however if they just tweek somethings they maybe able to get this agreed on and start playing.
The players aren't guaranteed 57% in perpetuity just because the last CBA ended at that number. In a CBA world, everything is pending renegotiation.
Secondly, the 82 game season is a win financially for the players. More games = more gate revenue = larger HRR. Not to mention that lost games comes right off of their salary; by playing a full season they eliminate that impact.

I am a fan of upping ELC lengths, making UFA age older, ect.
Might make it harder to land established European talent, but rewards teams for good drafting.
Agreed, with the current Ranger team I really like it. Even though the ELC changes won't affect our current players, the UFA changes allows one more year to keep cap hits down.

82 game season is also a win for the owners. Why do you think they made the deal contingent on it? I'd say lots of owners want a full season played
I'll concede that I am the most uninformed poster on the site.
With that said, I always thought the revenue sharing would be down to around a 50-50 mix at the end of negotiations.
I really don't know much about the new proposal but I am left wondering what the PA believes they are getting new? Especially when they have not yet put a proposal on the table.
I am left with the feeling that everyone is putting their best PR shot on the table before more games are cancelled.
If a deal is reached then it will confirm that I have no clue what went on.
