Question, if the NHL season does end up starting on the 2nd, does Reilly still get a look up with the big club?
Or an even better question.....will the ahl shut down for a week for camps for all nhl teams? Or would they bring up a crap load of ECHL players until the camp is over and they get their guys back because kadri, Gardiner and Frattin are likely on the leafs this year.
I hope not! I hope he doesn't see a single minute of NHL ice-time. Keep him down in the dub and let him prosper and come into his own as a player. Coming up at any point would just put unnecessary pressure on a kid who has the potential to sky rocket through our system and become an impact player right away. Personally I can wait a year or two before I see him in a Leafs jersey. Again this gets brought up but in Leafs Nation patience is key when it comes to our prospects.
Could Morgan Rielly be that franchise defenceman we desperately need?
As the title says. For those who have not being keeping track, Rielly has 14 points in 10 games so far this year (3 G, 11 A) and has been a beast for Moose Jaw.
At the draft combine he placed top 5 in every event and I believe he placed 1st in a couple (at least one event). To me that shows his dedication to off ice training and his work ethic. For an 18 year old to be 205 pounds at 6'0" is great, you know he is built like a tank. His skating is amazing. Perfect for a puck moving, offensive d-man. And from what I read on here a lot of people say his defensive game is actually above average and underrated by a lot of people.
Seems like the kid has it all. I also thought he had a very good tournament against Russia during the summer, but the fans of other teams weren't giving him enough credit, just because he's a Leaf prospect. I remember that one play where he practically ran that powerplay for almost 2 minutes and then ended up making a great cross crease pass for a goal, but it seemed like nobody on the board cared except for us.
I think Burke may have been right guys, he might be IT.
I definitely see him on our top pairing for many years to come in the future. Considering he's the type of guy you can build around, he could very well be a franchise d-man.
He hasn't played a game past junior yet, you need to wait until he gets to the big leagues. It would be amazing if he could turn out to be around Pietrangelo's level.

Oh I guess TSN just showed the ones he did well in then, cause I remember them showing he was top 5 in the events they showed. I assumed that was all of them. Nevertheless, he is still top 5 and top 10 in a lot of events there, and 1st in right hand grip.
there's no questioning Reilly offensive game as we know he will probably produce excellent stats this year. what Reilly needs in order to become that top franchise player for us is improve on his defence, I havent seen Reilly play much but inorder to be able to be that franchise guy he needs to be able to be put out against the best players in the NHL and shut them down, guys like Crosby, Giroux, Staal, Stamkos just to name a few that he will see once playing for the Leafs. so the question is can he do that in the future?
How'd he do in last nights game? Also is there a place to watch highlights for the moosejaw games, wouldn't mind seeing the 5 assists he got the other day.
Was Nashville expecting Weber to be a franchise defenseman?
Was Montreal expecting Subban to be a franchise defenseman?
Was Detroit expecting Lidstrom to be a franchise defenseman? Let alone one of the greatest defensemen of all time?
What I'm trying to say is prospects can have all the promise in the world. They still have to elevate their game when they make it to the big league though. We will have no idea if Rielly can be a franchise defenseman until he plays some games in the NHL. Looking at how he has played in junior so far it looks like he will be a great player. Calling him or wondering if he will be a franchise defenseman at this point in time to me is too premature.

You realize you just threw Subban in the mix with Lidstrom too right? He's a good #2/3 guy but franchise defenseman.. Absolutely not.
In my eyes there are franchise defenseman and then there are elite franchise defensemen. Two very different categories but I would still refer to them both as franchise defenseman.
