How about the benefit of players playing overseas to keep in game shape and keep their timing have a huge advantage over players sitting around and simply scrimmaging while the lockout exists.
Players like Grabs and Kulemin playing in the KHL should benefit the Leafs upon their return to help carry the team early on over players sitting idle and needing adjustment time. Considering there will only be a shortened 1 week training camp and a few exhibition games to get players geared up and ready to go on the regular season.
The more players a team has playing now the better they have of getting earlier quick returns when the lockout ends and hockey resumes. Since KHL stats are not transferable to the NHL this season, its really not important how they do statistically, but the true benefit comes from them playing, staying sharp and in game condition.

It's nice when they put up points, but I could not care less how they perform overall. All I'm doing is praying that they come back in one piece without any injures.
FYI in Grabo's first 4 games he averaged roughly 15:40 of icetime. In his last 3, he's up to 20+. Clearly there's an adjustment period.
Who cares, as long as they put up points in the NHL. I'm not worried about Grabo at all. I remember the year he scored 29 goals, he didn't score 1 until his like 16th game.

nice to know how they're doing stats-wise for sure, but in comparison to actually watching the games, it doesn't say much for their play. i'd like to stream a few games (if anyone knows of any) and judge their play that way. plus. i hope they aren't going too hard over there anyways. save it for your real team fellas.
i'll take a look for streams later if no one has any. i know they're out there, or at least used to be out there. i used to watch Kulemin all the time on mute before he came over to NA.

Has Malkin lost his scoring touch? What's going on? He scored at a better pace last year in the NHL, he should have more points.

The bigger ice in the Europe leagues can also do as much damage to their games as it does good. Playing on bigger ice you have more time to do stuff and the game is more loose compared to the North American tighter checking more physical style game.
I just hate the fact that people think these guys went over there to keep in game shape, they went for a paycheque and some of them will be getting top dollar.

For some of them they just went home during the owner imposed lock-out.

Nothing that hasn't gone on in any other hockey city. Money talks. Suter never seemed to be emotionally attached to the idea of playing in Nashville long term. He tip-toed around around the issue of re-signing until it was too late to get anything for him.
As for Weber, when somebody shoves that much money in your face, you listen. Hardly surprising.
FWIW: NHL scouts consider Kuznetsov the #1 ranked prospect outside the NHL in their latest Hockey News top 50 prospects ranking.
Washington stole him #26th overall in 2010 as teams that are unafraid to draft Russians pass on talent in the entry draft. Similarly how Leafs got Kulemin in the 2nd due to his birth certificate, and falling out of the 1st round on his talent.
He potentially could be far better in the NHL than Grabs or Kulemin and might even become an elite NHLer statistically like Datsyuk or Malkin..
An OV -- Backstrom -- Kuznetsov top line might soon become the NHL's most dangerous trio in time.
