All Purpose Luongo Trade Discussion (New news) MOD WARNING IN OP
I know we had a 30+ Lu thread prior to this one that went down hill after countless Admin/Mod warnings. Let's please stay civil and respect one another. If you do get an infraction, expect to be removed from the trade board altogether. There will be no further warnings.
Assuming this is true, either Burke suddenly decided his goaltending won't cut it and paid a price he didn't want to for a quality goalie or Gillis decided the new CBA will lower Luongo's value or gave up on the situation entirely and held Burke to his word.
Gee, that doesn't seem to go against either GM's words or anything at all. I'd be taking this one with a grain of salt.

Just wondering, but how did it go up? If there's a trade to be made with the current CBA in place, Leafs wouldn't be on hook for Luongo's cap hit if he retired, no? Missed the latter part of Maclean's quote where he said Toronto thinks Roberto is now cheaper..

It's just my opinion, If the cap hit is not transferred, then the leafs would have to pay more because the contract does not look nearly as bad as it did before.
It's odd. The Leafs don't gain anything out of the news that came out last night. It shouldn't raise what the Leafs are willing to offer. However, you would think Gillis would want more, considering Vancouver could be on the hook if Luongo retires.
I wouldn't mind a 1st if its for luongo but Rielly should be completely untouchable.
Yah, I didn't bother mentioning Kessel, Phaneuf, or Rielly because I assumed everyone knew they wouldn't be getting traded anytime soon. Gardiner and our first could actually be used as trade bait though(maybe not Gardiner, hard to say). I guess if we got Luongo, our first would be a lot lower than it would be without him.

Well Gardiner should be valued as untouchable not a trade asset in the leafs best interest unless its for a number 1 center.
We don't need Gunnarsson, and Toronto does. But valuewise the Leafs make out like bandits.
We do if we want to move Ballard and his hefty salary out. Gunnarsson is miles better than Andrew Alberts, the guy that would slide into the starting lineup if Ballard is dealt...
It's good value for the Leafs. Though don't forget the Canucks shed over $4mil in cap space - while setting themselves up to shed much more by moving Ballard.
This is a deal that looks good going forward if the cap drops to $60mil...

I don't like getting ripped off in trades for the sake of cap space.
