And do you know what the Rangers were going to be named? (I'm not sure if it's true though)

Yep, that was taken from the top of Section 224 where there will be handicapped seating and the new concessions.

Another hockey team (which was older than the Rangers) that played at MSG.

And yes, New York Giants is right.

Imagine how confusing that would be with three teams named the Giants (now two obviously)?

OK guys, here you go. I have 46 pictures from last night and they can all be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/28612242@N08/

Here are some highlights - enjoy!

New ice started going down this morning. During next year's final phase, the entire ice system is being replaced. Chillers, piping, and flooring will be removed and a new system will be installed with a reverse osmosis system to improve ice quality. The RO system is removes 95% of minerals, salts, and other impurities and allows the ice to be kept at a slightly higher temperature:

Thanks dude, looks like it's coming along

I'm interested to see how the new lights look when they're actually turned on for gametime

I still don't see how they are going to fit concessions and lines of people behind that section 224 without it becoming crazily congested with people.

I read an article in the NY Post that there will be 1,000 less seats this year. Anyone else see that? If so, that's cheesy.

Could be. There will also be additional seating on the bridges next year

Why would they put the bridges up and then take them down?

I like that section 224 view. I think Hockey & Football looks better from afar. Baseball & Basketball look better up close.

There should be. Capacity is supposed to stay the same when all is said and done and the bridges account for 1,000 seats.

Yes, fewer seats this year and then back to the normal number after the fan bridges go up next summer.

Can't believe the first time I see the "new" Garden part 2 will be for a Knicks game... Hope the negotiations today are just that, negotiations, and maybe instill a little hope to me that I can get to MSG for HOCKEY first.

Sweet pics, islandextreme26 , the transformed Garden looks REALLY impressive!!!

I noticed something about the newly-laid ice surface - it's not even 5 days old and cracks are showing in the rink. Saw something similar when I went to Adam Graves Night back in 2009... fresh sheet of ice, cracks appearing. Here's a photo:

Is this one of the flaws of the current refrigeration system? And will the new rink system technology reduce the problems & incidents associated with the QUALITY ice at the World's Most Famous Arena?

I believe the bridges will be higher than they would look in that picture since they are building a new roof, which is higher up.

Cracks in ice are symptom of the ice being too cold. As the poster had informed about the new refridgeration system, it would allow the ice to be slightly warmer.
