So did the PA's proposal increase HRR from what it is now (ie up to 58%) or from what it would be in Bettman's offer (ie up to 51%)?

I see;

Crosby - Highest paid player
Hemsky - paid 5m for no production
Campoli - does not have a contract with a team

And looks like I was right.

Fehr's saying the back-pay on existing contracts would be included in future 50-50% splits. Hence, the PA can't accept it.

I find it kind of funny how Doan says he will only play for Phoenix, its home and all that stuff but than demands a CBA that will cause Phoenix to either fold or be relocated.

Has anybody crunched the numbers on the NHLPA's proposal involving guaranteed existing contracts and then splitting revenue 50/50? Would be interesting to see how this actually breaks down.

Don't really get the hate for the PA on this one. Owners aren't giving them any incentive really. The NHL is essentially saying: we want you to give up part of your HRR split to make it 50-50, plus we're going to limit your contract negotiating rights, and in exchange, you can have increased revenue sharing (which we owners want, anyway), and guaranteed existing contracts at the expense of future contracts.

forgive my ignorance but what was proposed about future contracts?

Anyway, sounds fair to me, that's why there's hate.

Pretty much this.

The NHL offered a more realistic deal, but the players are still worse off than they were in the previous CBA.

well, they should be. Owners are losing money. Players should get less.

Sounds fair to you only because it gets you what you want and costs you nothing.

Not sure where the increase came from, other than Bettman's mouth.

I think people jump too quickly to conclusions about what is said before the supporting detail is available.

Based on what I heard from Fehr (many of the press seem to agree) the player's did offer 50/50 in all options, the timing is what is different.

According to some it doesn't matter what Bettman did, the players were supposed to just sign and play.

Bettman seemed so disappointed. Really wanted this to be concluded.

Fehr, not so much. He still makes me sick to my stomach.

It seems the players are more than willing to go to 50/50, the real issue seems to be the timing of getting to that share.

I agree with the players 100%, these owners were signing long term deals for huge dollars all summer, now don't want to pay. Just wrong IMO.

The owners got an offer of an immediate 50/50 deal, only caveat, honor the deals you signed.

If the owners wanted this concluded they would accept a phased in plan or accept the 3rd option offered by the players today.

They aren't willing to do either, that says it all.

Sorry, blackberry dead, wanted to mention Bill Daly's response to proposal 3. Says it is closer to 56 or 57 per cent, with $650M "hidden."
Option 3 is not nearly as simple as you think it is.
