I stuck to the wings or buffalo-chicken, the basics that you'd think a pub would do well with. It just wasn't great. And I always found the women very trashy looking (not in a good way, there's a difference as I'm sure you know!) - like some of the Ice Girls!

that's a pretty good idea!

Which is why I'm surprised it didn't flourish on Long Island!

I remember asking the hostess if Hooters was a gay bar, since it was filled with men. Poor girl looked confused until I explained I was kidding. But she was good looking so she probably doesn't need to be that smart. shhhhh

(I learned this from the debates, I never used to think this way)

My bad!

(anyone who remembers the best wings ever made at the Colonial Inn in Mineola - the one that burnt down in the '80's?)

PM me and I'll give you a recipe.

One of the valuable pieces of knowledge I got while attending SUNY Brockport (In between Buffalo and Rochester) is the actual, and very simple, original Bufallo wing recipe.

Chicken wings halved (discard "tail" part)
Fry wings in deep fryer (some upstate bars also cook wings under broiler very exceptable for original wing recipe)
Melt butter and combine with "Franks" red hot sauce
Drain wings when done, dump in mixing bowl, cover with butter and Franks mixture, stir until wings are covered enjoy with favorite beer.

There are many variations (some good, some really suck!) but that is the genesis of the original "Buffalo wing"

It's very weird. While I did like the buffalo chicken strips or even the buffalo chicken sandwich, I did NOT like the buffalo wings themselves. I guess it's kinda like enjoying ketchup and tomato sauce without actually liking tomatoes.

As for the girls... very hit or miss. If there were 12 waitresses there... 4 were hot, 4 were ok and 4 were like damngirlhowyougetdisjob?!

Ugh. I know I'm going to sound like 'that guy'. But it's pretty dumb to see women and wings discussed and rated in pretty much exactly the same way that a hard-up and horny 15 y/o would. Stop it. I can't imagine I'm the only dude around here with a wife and a daughter. I'm not out of touch. There's a reason these places are going out of business. You don't have to be a woman to be creeped out.

Most people who talk like that are Craig-Carton style pretend macho-men who get all "yes, dear" at home, anyway.

Cheers,

Dan-o

Haha, this is SOOOOO true. The mice get bold when the cat is away. 'Yes, Dear'

Dan-o has a point though, let's show some more respect to the fairer sex.

Plus, the Buffalo Wings that I make will blow your mind and backside away. Not for the faint of heart. I know the recipe for 'Bon Chon Chicken' if anyone is familiar with that. It's Korean style fried chicken that has some serious heat. The key, frying the chicken twice.

There is one on Old Country Road by the Source, and another in Astoria, I think. They destroy Hooters in every conceivable way. Fantastic selection of beers, pretty decent food, and the talent pool is not even close.

That's too bad. I've been to that Hooters in Farmingdale several times after a round of golf. We usually ordered the wings (medium), nachos and steamed clams. Slightly overpriced, but that's the premium you pay for the extra scenery.

VERY interested here. Asian cultures rightfully so love the wings (best meat on the chicken IMHO is the bicep, not the drummette or thigh or breast) and I can't find anything on Korean wings. Chinese? Got it, done it and it's god, but this sounds appealing. PM me with a recipe.

Strummer, wings have to be fried to remove moisture from the skin and create a porous surface to take the sauce, so you fry the chicken and IMMEDIATELY shake it hard and drop it in the sauce and toss.

The sauce I found to be the BEST was melted margarine, chopped garlic (jar), and a good Louisiana hot sauce, then add tobasco for heat. Melt the margarine and heat the garlic until it's soft, then add the LHS, and heat on low until it turns colors a bit (flavors meld). Then add tobasco for heat. I also add a good, rich and smoky BBQ 50/50 for a change.

If it weren't for the cost, I'd always fry chicken in peanut oil, FWIW. It tastes so much better (debate the health issue if you want....better to enjoy your 70 years fully than to be miserable and in diapers at 90).

And for anyone concerned about the above topic, I can always prepare these in a tight fitting shirt. (you don't want that)

I love women and wings like the next guy. But it is annoying to have some ugly chick with a nice rack sitting there with you flirting with you so you give them a nice tip. The wings were not that good but the women were nice to look at minues there face on some of them. When I go out to eat I don't like the waitress sit there with me telling me how nice I am how good I look or tell me how they love my camaro SS. Again it's how I feel. I am sure most here will bash me for this rant but that's ok.

How dare you comment on the women who work at Hooters. Everyone goes there for the high quality food and not to enjoy the girls. The corporate outfit is skimpy shorts and tops, but that is irrelevant.

Remember, this is HFboards -- no fun is allowed. A mention of boobs while discussing this place is infraction worthy.

Remember when this place used to be fun? Then killer, i4e11, b-jo, e-godard, tom, etc. left. All awesome guys. All gone. Gee I wonder why they left . Myself, I only come here now to kill down time at work. Just try finding a post from me after 5:00 or on a weekend because you won't. This board used to be great fun. Oh well... such is life.
