Whale down 4-2 Kreider ejected for boarding and game misconduct. Anyone know if he'll be suspended? Gilroy scored 2 goals so far

Whale lose 5-4 in OT.

Goals by Segal (2) and Gilroy (2). Jean with 2 assists, Miller with 1 assist. I thought Hrivik looked good before the stream went out.

Greenville Wins 5-2

Greenville defeats South Carolina 5-2 at the BI-LO Center Saturday night. Earning their first win of the season. South Carolina struck first but Greenville fought back to take a 2-1 Lead to the 2nd period.
Marc-Olivier Vallerand scored on a short handed break away to put the dagger in South Carolina. Francis Verreault and Sean Berkstresser both added goals in the 3rd period. Adam Courchaine was solid in net putting 28 saves on 30 shots! Greenville travels to Gwinnett tomorrow.

It didn't look bad enough to warrant further action.

It will take Hrivik a few games to get back in the swing of things.

Very good news on Jean. If he can continue to impress and become a solid 3rd liner at the NHL level, job well done to Gordie and friends. Cheap young talent=important and every successful team whether its the Ducks with Penner, the Hawks with Niemi, or even as far back as the Flyers with Tim Kerr (extreme example) always have one or two FAs on their roster that come out of nowhere.

He's currently tied for 3rd in the AHL with 5 pts in 3 games. It's early, but that's pretty impressive for an undrafted player in his rookie year - especially this year with guys who should be in the NHL on every team. I think he and Hrivik both have futures in the NHL.

EDIT: interesting that you mention Kerr - Jean has some similarities in terms of size and ability to get in front of the net.

Kerr is one of the greatest undrafted finds ever. Guy couldn't be moved from in front of the net for a good 7-8 years. If Jean could even come close or put up 20-G-20A numbers, he might be the final piece.

Girardi was not drafted and turned out to be a solid NHL player. I hope Jean and Hrivik can be that good

Tim Kerr was a mediocre skater and not a guy who brought the puck up the ice. What Tim Kerr could do is set up in front of the net and not be moved--he was excellent at using his body to shield the puck and had a great and accurate snap shot. He could also one time shots. He was a pwp specialist type guy. He would over power guys in front of the net. Different game back then--defensemen could really work players over--crosschecks, slashes, the odd rabbit punch and not get called--that didn't accomplish much against a bull like Tim. Kerr would have a hard time these days getting a regular shift though because his skating just wasn't that good. Contrasting him to Jean--right now we're seeing that Jean is at least a very good skater and has a lot of moves--he's bringing the puck up the ice.

Gilroy by the way is a -6 in 3 games. Ouch.

He also has 2 goals, 3 points in 3 games.

And the team has been pretty awful.

Watch the highlights, Gilroy was Horrendous! Turnover directly led to first goal and he left a man wide open for the OT winner.

"Horrendous"

What were Pyett and Missiaen doing on the play? In the NHL defense partners cover one another:, and goaltenders make saves.

"Left a guy wide open" apparently means covering two guys? Because he had his man in front of the net, where was his defense partner, again? On the goal that made it 2-1.

The OT goal i can somewhat understand, but again, its 4v4 and NO ONE on the ice was covering anyone. Instead of being lazy and cherry picking at the blueline in the defensive zone that winger should have dropped lower when that man got open.

Being a defenseman on that team is a disaster waiting to happen, period.

Forget that Gilroy carried the offensive production that kept the team in the game, overlook that.

Oh, I'm not saying he's a Kerr clone - I remember Kerr's game well. I'm just saying that Jean has some similarities with Kerr in that he has size and an ability to use it to get his goals in front.

Tortorella wanted him back.

It has been reported the Rangers intend to sign him to an NHL contract when the lockout ends.

Having Gilroy, Eminger, and Bickel gives the Rangers good depth.

I bet its a two way deal and he stays in the AHL. McD, Girardi, Staal, Stralman, Del Zotto, Bickel, Eminger is 7 D and if Sauer is healthy its 8. No chance they carry 9

Doubt it.

And Sauer will not be healthy. They aren't operating with the assumption he's ever coming back.

Its noted that some here feel Gilroy is a POS. But its wrong Hes not. Hes capable enough as a 3rd pair depth defenseman that can also fill in as a depth forward.

There are 12 forwards signed. No spares.

Gilroy, Bickel, and Eminger all can and have dressed as forwards in the past.

One of them will be the #6 defenseman on any given night.
