The main Luongo thread is extremely fun to read

Those Eberle for Luongo proposals make me cringe, even them saying luongo for the leafs #1 pick + Lupal

I should just leave them a link to this thread so that way were not talking about his value in that thread

Although now that I understand the CBA proposal abit better I wouldn't mind getting him as much as before to be honest we'd get him for a couple years and then they would get stuck with it after he retires, I just don't know how our cap would fair, and obviously he's not worth any of our top guys right now.

what good is getting a goalie that no question would help us make the playoffs compared to dubnyk, but chokes when it matters?

Making the playoffs is a start. Only 1 goalie wins the cup every year, and just because Luongo hasn't been one of them yet makes him only as much of a choker as Lundqvist or the 15 other goalies that don't win it every year. Just because Fleury has won a cup doesn't make him a clutch goalie. The Canucks have long been a product of the weakest division in the league that have elevated them to a false status as a main contender. I'm not saying they aren't a contender at all and I admit they are a very good team, but because of their regular season record everyone instantly slots them as the favorites from the Western conference. I remember hearing a Vancouver-based media guest on Oilers Now and he mentioned that the Canucks actually had only won something like 11 or 12 out of the 38 or something games against playoff teams in the regular season.
I'd be happy to have Luongo on the Oilers, just not for the next 11 years.

I would say Despres upside is Jeff Petry, so may as well keep the sure thing. One stone in the hand type deal.

I think Despres has higher upside than Petry is today, but then Petry himself probably has yet to peak.
Right now Petry is further ahead in his development

No. Petry has progressed very well and right now this team needs NHL experience not just more potential.

I can't handle the main board. I only go for rumors for the most part, because when I go for value of or random proposals, you have some idiot proposing Yak for Franzen+.

Apparently we need to be made aware there is a plus there.

Oh ya, Oil fan proposed it.

Pretty much this, outside of getting a proven all-star I can't see us moving Petry.

Thanks alot !

But this was mainly value only. Not Pittsburgh vs Edmonton.

It was for a Keeper Sim league im in. Looking for a young offensive D-man (Petry).

Thanks again

a few luongo threads ago it was Eberle, Nuge and a first rounder for Luongo--so it has gotten better.

But the thread is amusing because in the discussion oiler fans are making more sense then some, that is how screwy that thread has become

That thread has turned into a gong show. Just such extreme views in terms of valuation both from Canuck fans and from Leaf fans to an even greater extent. Very few seem to accept that the real value lies somewhere in between.

Believe me I know. I have just come to the conclusion that it is not worth fighting a losing battle pointing out the obvious to some posters over there.

Luongo to Edmonton?

Do you think the Canucks would trade Luongo to Edmonton?

Cap Hit: $5.3 million

Contract Ends: 2021-22 (age 43)

I wouldn't like it.

A few years from now, the cap situation will be pretty tough, and having Luongo in his late 30's and early 40's still sucking away 5 mil wouldn't be my first option for a goalie.

Luongo would be great short-term, but I would not be happy with long-term.

If we get luongo we would have to also get a first round pick with it. We would be doing Vancouver a favor if we took on luongo's salary.

Luongo is still a great goalie and will be for the next 5-6 years, but that contract is a killer.
Also, Dubnyk just singed a 3.5M extension--the brass clearly see him as a starter in the foreseeable future.

Its tough because Luongo would make us a better team for the next couple years, but we also have some nice quality young goalies who might or might not
be ready to also do the same. I would say a couple years ago yes absolutely ... now .... its questionable. I wouldn't be upset over it ... at least I wouldn't have to see that Russian attempting it.
