impressions I got from tonight.

I thought they controlled the game the last 2 periods. First period was pretty bad period overall. Providence scored on all the chances they had even if Jones was off his game early. First goal was miscommunication behind the cage with Campbell and Jones.
Manchester jumped on Providence and scored quickly. Clune's hard work paid off later and he scored a ugly goal to get it to 1.
Then later on Manchester was killing a penalty Loktionov had the puck in the nuetral zone. he felt some pressure and instead of dumping the puck down he tried to curl back in the offensive zone he proceeds to turn the puck over and a few seconds later the pucks in the back of the net. Toffoli scored late in the period to give em hope but it wasnt going to happen.

Manchester did a terrible job on faceoffs tonight I thought. Too many times especially on special teams they failed to win a faceoff. If you cant win faceoffs on the PP, your PP will not look good. They were also on the perimiter way to much on the PP tonight. the passing was predictable. The Toffoli goal aside the PP looked awfull tonight.
Its only the 3rd game of the season and its way, way to early to be concerned. i think we all had a feeling that chemistry was going to be an issue early on and goaltending was going to have to be good until the guys got used to each other.
Manchester did have a lot more shots then Providence, but they didnt make it very difficult on Svedberg.

Time to recruit Robb Stauber and Jamie Storr as assistants to coach these goalies on how to find yourself in a real adventure outside of the crease.

Well, it looks like the Narchs will get a little help on left side with the signing of Kinger. This definately isn't great news for either Pearson or Porky.

Hopefully Prokhorkin gets back in the lineup tonight. I honestly don't see why he's the one rotating out when you have someone like O'Neill who doesn't provide much of anything out there. Not that Czarnik was bad, but Prokhorkin and Lokti looked great playing on the same line last weekend. Why would Morris want to break that up?

Jones was awful last night. He needs to be much better than that. His nonchalant style looks pretty silly when he's letting in softies all over the place.

And yet people thought its time to bring Jones up to the NHL if/when the Kings trade Bernier. Jones certainly needs more time to establish himself as a solid starter at the AHL first. He's been good when splitting duties with Zatkoff, but now he's the bonafide starter and has to prove that the team can depend on him in net for 50+ games.

Well it probably has to do with experience. Even if O'Neill and Prokhorkin are both rookies, O'Neill is what? 5 years older? That could be a factor. Simply put, some people are going to have to sit out. By my count (and assessment) we have 13 people who should always be in the lineup. Can't go with 5 D so someone will always be sitting.

And I vehemently disagree with nonchalant style. I LOVE that from a goalie actually. My goalie coach taught me that after every goal, take a skate, shake it off, and tell yourself it's a 0-0 game. I'd much rather see Jones handle bad nights the way he did as compared to Tim Thomas who freaks out after every goal.

It's one bad night. Quick has had plenty of those. Every goalie in the world has had a bad night in the cage. His first two games this season he was great in. I certainly think a full year as a starter would do him good but I wouldn't be crying if he was our backup this year. Because hey....at least his last name isn't Cloutier or LOLBarbera right?

I don't mean nonchalant as in how he does not visibly react with his emotions. I mean nonchalant as in the way he plays. It cost him on a couple goals last night.

I think I know what you mean in the nonchalant description, which is how Jamie Storr looked when he was in between the pipes.

You have to be able to play in all three zones. If you listen to Kozun interview he says that Prokorkin needs to learn how to play in his own end of the rink.

I do not know if he is bad in his end or not as i have not seen him play. so i will wait till i see him play before i judge.

Ah okay so you mean the same way Bernier plays? Don't really have a problem with the way Jones or Bernier play. They both rely more on positioning rather than athleticism. That's a style I actually prefer. I'm far from a fan of they way Quick plays (his style not his actual play).

Two games in a row for Hickey. Not a good start to the season for him, unless there's an injury we don't know about.

Wow Deslauriers just trucked someone. Can't believe he got a penalty on that. Great hit.

It's more about getting the younger D in right away. Manchester already knows Hickey's game. Also he might be nursing an injury. These first few games Morris is going to look at all the new people/younger, see how they handle the AHL speed/strength.

Morris has seen Hickey the last three years.

Although so far Martin Jones has not looked good.

Figures that Portland scores on that "penalty" to Deslauriers. Jones was sleeping on that one, too. Seems like he has a hard time tracking the puck.

Focus, Quick says it's the hardest thing to maintain during a game.

Right now Jones seems to be struggling with it.

Weal has looked real good down low, guy is relentless on the puck.

That was some pretty bad D by Manchester, about three turnovers in one shift.

The last one leading to a breakaway.
