If I understand most flames fans, they need to get younger, build through the draft and so on. So I assume getting two young NHL-ready players and a big, strong, versatile player with plenty of leadership to mentor them wouldn't be such a bad thing?
I'm offering:
Brooks Laich, C/LW (20g avg. during his past 5 seasons, plays PP/PK)
Mathieu Perreault, C (had a .58pts/g avg. in 29 games last season when playing 13+ minutes)
Dmitry Orlov, D (puckmoving D with a little nasty, lots of upside)
1st 2013 (a #15-25 pick in a deep draft)
for
Mike Cammalleri (a sniper for Ribeiro)
Jay Bouwmeester (D-partner for Green, a left shot from the point on the PP)
2nd 2013
I see it as a pretty fair deal but with CAL wanting to win now they would not do that deal. They are not going to trade their 2nd round pick away also as you are getting two very good proven players.
If Calgary does this deal they masswell trade Iggy, Kipper, Tanguay and do a proper rebuild as they could get good young players and picks for them in return.
Laich & Perreault are redundant as the Flames have a lot of depth players. Trading a top 6 forward or 1st pairing defense to land either would be a step toward a lottery pick.
Orlov is a prospect with possible upside & a mid to late 1st round draft pick isn't gold.
The depth of any draft is only proven years later. It's as much a projection/talking point for the talking heads as player x being the next Crosby/Orr to keep people reading their pages/blogs.
Reading the trade made me actually think about it for a little bit. That already means it's more creative and interesting than 99% of the trades on here haha. Nice proposal.
Also replacing Bouwmeester with Orlov would make the Flames worse.
Perreault is nothing we dont already have either.
edit - Missed that the Capitals were giving up a 1st, that makes it a bit better, still not sure if the Flames would do it though, especially with the big hole being left on D. Flames also dont have a 2013 2nd at the moment.
The only interesting piece the Flames get in return here is a single extra ball in the draft, because that's all that's going to matter when you trade away 2 of our best players.
Laich and a 1st for Cammy and a 2nd might be workable but I'm not willing to move Orlov for Bouwmeester, and Perreault is quickly becoming a fan favorite besides he's cheap and versatile while highly entertaining to watch.
I think you should change the first to a second and change Laich, to Johannson. In such case Calgary can afford to go into rebuild mode. Iggy and Kipper could be traded away as well. Would make the 2013 incredibly exciting for Flames fans
2 firsts, a second and a cap dump for Iggy.
Don't know what I'd demand for Kipper, but the Flames would finally have a respectable prospect pool to work with and they'd have more cap space than they could possibly handle for years to come.

To be honest, your second best center on the roster had 18 pts in 61 games last year (excluding Cammalleri), not much to write home about. Backlund and Horak might have potential to get up there, but with Laich and Perreault it improves the center depth a whole lot.
I could live with Johansson, Orlov, 2nd 2013 and Schultz (Flames need to take some salary back) for Cammalleri and Giordano. That should jumpstart a rebuild for Calgary and make Washington really competative!
Bouwmeester for first, Ward, Galiev?
Next year we let Hamrlik go. Ward+Hamrlik = 6.5 M, so that's not a critical amount of salary going to DC.
Bouw - Green
Alzner - Carlson
Schultz/Schilling/Wey - Orlov
Erskine/Schultz/Schilling/Wey
That's not what I offered for Bouwmeester.. But for Cammalleri and Giordano I would seriously consider it though.
i know that. i know you badly want capitals trades, but it would be helpful if you looked at the capitals roster with some reality. the capitals have fast tracked both johansson and orlov. they by all accounts love them both. why bother mentioning them in trade threads? mcphee is pretty transparant. you know the players that might be traded. talk about them.
you think mcphee would consider trading brooks laich? i'd say there is no chance. in a salary cap league a player that can play more than one position is a major payroll expander. laich can a quality 3rd player on a top 2 line. he can play a solid 3rd line. he can do that at any of the 3 forward positions. he has and can play first pp unit and 1st pk unit and belong there. add that he is a legit #4-5 defenseman when asked to play there.
i dont really care who the player is coming the other way or how much some caps fans thinks he talks to much or is overpayed. mcphee is not going to trade him.

Bouw - Green
i can't wait to see that pair and the withering media bash raining down on them come playoff time. good lord
what green needs is a solid and reliable veteran defense first player. think a middle of the lineup/30 year old plus karl alzner.
bouwmeester is not the right player. the caps have green, carlson and orlov as offensive producers on defense. they
dont need bouwmeester
