May isn't that far off...

Quote:
The official event logos for Kentucky Derby 139 and Kentucky Oaks 139 were released Tuesday by Churchill Downs. Officially licensed apparel and headwear featuring the new logos are now available for purchase online at KentuckyDerbyStore.com.

Both logos were designed by SME for the fifth consecutive year. SME explored a contemporary vision for the design of the 2013 event marks with the bold use of negative space creating a lighter, less traditional feel than previous iterations. Each logo harnesses a palate reflective of spring 2013 color forecasts to ensure that the seasonality of the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks is echoed within the overall composition. The official colors for Kentucky Derby 139 are blue and yellow. As usual, the official color for Kentucky Oaks 139 is pink (magenta) and its logo companion color is green.

Glad that both the PA Derby and Cotillion are on the same day. Cotillion has traditionally drawn better fillies than the PA Derby with the colts, but moving the Derby to today from Labor Day has allowed trainers to come down for the huge purse instead of going to the Travers, and leaving us with everyone's C-team horses.

Cotillion is a G1 this year, which means I'm going to see my first G1 race ever, but also glad both races are on the same day. Neither race really drew that much, but the Cotillion, which the past couple years was run on the following week, couldn't draw flies. I could get almost any spot I wanted along the rail. Only 4 horses though, Questing scared everyone away. Haven't been able to get a Cotillion winner home in the BCLC though.

PA Derby always had a few more people but I could always get from the paddock, to the post parade, to my spot near the gate without a problem. Rematches usually don't live up to the first race, but it seems like we're the only thing going on today.

Great stretch duel between Questing and My Miss Auerila, goes the way of the latter.

Handsome Mike, comes down from Canada and takes the PA Derby, Golden Ticket 3rd, Alpha 6th. Alpha still hasn't proven he's a good horse outside of New York.

Steve Asmussen was also meandering among the crowd during the Derby.

Crowd seemed a little bit bigger actually. I could still get to most of my normal spots, though. Asmussen was about 15 feet away from me watching the Derby.

Santa Anita is messing with my mind since they changed the names of all their stakes races.

They're also painfully slow getting their morning line odds together. I hope I have enough time to get the two real important ones tomorrow afternoon.

Bloodhorse listed the changes at Santa Anita. The link has a clean version.

Was going to go see the unveiling of the Zenyatta bronze, but figured I'll just wait until later when less people are there.

The successful lineage of Unbridled continues.

Unbridled's Note Takes Eddie D in Turf Debut
09/28/2012 8:56 PM ET

Unbridled's Note, invading from New York for his debut on turf, captured the $100,000 Eddie D Stakes (gr. IIIT) in fine style over the hillside turf course on opening day of the 2012 fall meet at Santa Anita Park Sept. 28 .

Kept clear on the outside by jockey Corey Nakatani, the slight 3-1 favorite in the field of 12 swept past pacesetter Chosen Miracle in deep stretch to win by 1 1/4 lengths.

A 3-year-old facing older horses for the first time, the leggy son of Unbridled's Song was most impressive while clocking the about 6 1/2-furlong distance down the hill in 1:12.45 over firm going. Having tamed the difficult course in his first attempt, the victory could signal a future start in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (gr. IT) Nov. 3 over the same layout.

"This puts us in a position to make the Breeders' Cup (Turf Sprint) with him," said Scott Blasi, assistant to Asmussen. "I just told Corey to put him in a good spot and see if he liked it or not. They either like it or they don't but he's bred to like the grass and he's a really talented colt."

The Eddie D, renamed for the Hall of Fame jockey Eddie Delahoussaye, was previously known as the Morvich Stakes.

Kauai Katie rolls along in the Matron at Belmont. Not really asked to do anything. We'll see if someone gives her a test at the Breeders' Cup

^ Bleep happens. There is a Grade 1 at Keeneland tomorrow (Sunday) with Aruna scheduled to run.

BTW, a double at Hoosier paid over $500 with a $128 winner in the second race today.

Anyone up for the Arc this morning? Frankie Dettori going behind enemy lines to ride Camelot. Godolphin is supposedly unhappy about this.

Heartbreaking loss for Japan, Orfevre was home free but run down by 4YO filly Solemia who was up around 66/1. Gutting loss.

Camelot, Sea Moon - both nowhere. Masterstroke was 3rd

Send a message via MSN to J17 Vs Proclamation
Not entirely relevant to the Breeders cup but tomorrow sees the likely finale in Frankel's career. He races in the 10F Champion Stakes (Ground likely to be soft-heavy). Opposition includes Cirrus De Aigles, the 2nd highest rated horse in the world this year, and Nathaniel, a top class middle distance performer. Interestingly, this is likely to be both Frankel and Nathaniels final race ; careers they both started 2 years ago in the same maiden.

Probably the best race run in Europe this year.

Also on the card you have the QE11 where Excelebration goes. Good competition in Elusive Kate/Cityscape amongst others, and i suspect if he wins here, you may see him at the Breeders cup.

Frankel is just a machine, bad break out the gate, heavy turf, still gets the job done in a rather impressive manner

Didn't see it yesterday, I'll have to catch up.

Chantal Sutherland is retiring today in Toronto. She's moving on to other opportunities. Guess she couldn't get the mount back on Game On Dude.

Another in the long line of Unbridled's winners: Unbridled Command wins his fourth straight race.

http://www.drf.com/news/belmont-park...win-day-mohawk

Quote:
The victory was the fourth in a row for Unbridled Command, who stepped out of statebred company to win the Grade 3 Saranac at Saratoga on Sept. 2.

Unbridled Command completed 1 1/16 miles over a yielding course in 1:47.02 and paid $7.30.

“The trip was beautiful and I loved when he moved him up just a couple of spots down the backside when they were going pretty slow,” said Bush. “Ramon said he was really handling the surface. He didn’t have a bobbling step to him and that gave him a lot of confidence too. He’s a horse who continues to move forward and it’s exciting. Visually it was his best race. He’s improved in the morning as well. He’s just a smoother, kinder horse. He’s improved in the morning as well. His breezes have been more professional. He’s coming the right way.”

Bush said Unbridled Command could make his next start in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby on Nov. 25.

"If he’s healthy and nothing’s amiss we haven’t ruled out running him in the Hollywood Derby,” said Bush.

Understandable that a 36yr old, whose accomplished what she has, wants to go to the breeding shed.

Although there was this odd paragraph tucked deep inside the story.
First this.

In the last year I also met and married the man of my dreams. It's been a whirlwind. I've never really had weekends or holidays off, I've always spent so much time racing or focused and preparing for racing. Racing takes so much determination, guts, and sacrifice to be on top.
Followed by this.

Downthestretch has released the PP's for probables for the Friday Ladies Classic.....but none of the other races???

Looks to be a real corker if the main contenders all go.

Awesome Feather, with her wonderful stalking style, and 10/10 record will be severely challanged.
Royal Delta, last years darling, looks razor sharp.
Todd's Love And Pride has won back to back Gr1's......over the track.
And some brilliant 3yr olds like the undefeated My Miss Aurelia, and the speedy Questing.
Among others.

^ I read a quote by Sutherland where she wants to kick back and eat a pizza. Perhaps there's emotional exhaustion but also a desire not to have to deal with making weight and living in such a rigid manner.

Interesting article on a possible replacement for Chantal around here, Cheryl Charlton. Most interesting quotes:

Quote:
During this meet, she will become the first female to finish as the leading thoroughbred rider at Los Alamitos Race Course. She has 84 victories. The next closest jockey is 26 wins back.

Charlton, who has won 32 percent of her thoroughbred starts, also has had success on quarter horses, which make up the majority of Los Al's races.

Now add this: It's possible – Los Alamitos officials aren't entirely sure – that Charlton will be the first woman jockey during any thoroughbred meet to be the leading rider at any track in Southern California.
Will be interesting to see if she moves up to the big leagues soon
