Why doesn't the NHL hire scabs?

Put on tryouts, open them to the public and televise them.

Same amount of money for each player and tickets are very cheap.

Why is the arena empty when this can be done easily?

Nothing says "he let's make a deal" like replacing you with horrible players!

If the lockout goes past a year this could become more likely.

Pretty sure they can't because the NHL locked the players out.

Who will play - most pro hockey players are signed and playing right now - if you want to see hockey why not go to a 67's game?

i don't want to see hockey, I just don't understand how the owners can afford to have empty buildings.

There have got to be plenty of players that are not signed somewhere that can generate income for them.

In the USA a lot of the arenas have basketball but the ones that don't, must have owners really hurting.

Because they currently are not paying the players.

Why do you want to pay NHL ticket prices to see amateur hockey players in NHL uniforms?

Because it's against Canadian labour law for employers who have locked out their employees to hire temporary workers. So 7 of the 30 teams wouldn't be able to play.

Moreover, it's a huge PR victory for the players. The NHL is about entertainment - nothing says 'the players are an important part of the NHL' like watching ECHL scrubs playing in the NHL. It'd be sacrilege.

Head to the Sensplex any night of the week if you want to see this. I know I will be now.

Stike = Employees refusing to work. Bring in scabs.
Lockout = Employers refusing to let employees work. No scabs.

Even if the NHL could, the hockey would suck. Can't offer that to fans. I know I wouldn't watch. The best hockey players in the world or nothing.

If you want hockey that badly why not just watch AHL or OHL?

Would crap with a Sens uniform really be that much better?

Owners re not paying players so that is removing $70M from their expense column. In addition, buildings are always empty. There are events, concerts, shows etc. that make up a huge part of their yearly revenue.

You pick scabs, not hire them.

And if you're really good, you eat them.

Maybe Bingo should move to Scotia Bank Place for their home games.

SBP has the 67's
Rexal place has the Oil Kings
Saddle dome has the Hitmen
ACC has the raptors

So not all the arenas are empty.

Meh, the NHL would look really bad if they hired scabs. I can remember baseball thinking about doing this back in the 90's when they where on strike.
