For those listing three alternates, that's not allowed, unless there are no Captains.

Rule 6.1 of the NHL Rulebook states:

No co-Captains are permitted. Either one Captain and no more than two Alternate Captains, or no Captain an no more than three Alternate Captains are permitted (see 6.2).

In Minor Hockey, the Hockey Canada Rulebook actually calls for a minor penalty for any team that has more than the appropriate numbers.

Cowen and Spezza. Karlsson doesn't strike me as a vocal leader, more of an Alfredsson type who leads on the ice. Same with Turris. Zack Smith and Borowiecki seem like natural leaders to me. Boro especially.

I don't see Phillips playing in the NHL at 39/40, personally. He's a tweener between 2nd and 3rd pairing as it is right now. I'm a fan of Phillips but I'm not sure if he'll still be keeping up 5 years from now.

One things for sure is that Phillips will be captain as soon as Alfie retires. At least, I feel that's a sure thing.

I think you'd probably be in the minority with that opinion. I think there's a much bigger feeling that Spezza will get the C when Alfie retires. Philly is fine with an A. It's just like Neil will probably never be a full time assistant captain for this team but there's no denying that he is one of the main leaders on this team

I can see Cowen being the future long-term captain, Phillips after Alfie retires but only until one of the kids makes the best case for being the captain (I believe it will be Cowen). Only reason I chose Cowen over Spezza was because Cowen would be a better choice for the team's long-term future, and I just can't see Spezza being a great captain. I'd love for him to prove me wrong, should he ever be captain, but I can't see it at this point.
