JFC. And then the players all stand behind this clown, with their mean faces on, complaining that Buttman and the owners shot them down and didn't take them serious. Well no ****ing kidding, who would take that serious??? What a joke.
i never stood by this clown, i knew he's trying to ruin hockey like with baseball, now the only way we get hockey is that the players grow some balls and fire this clown or no hockey until 2015 or maybe more. kelly would slammed dunk this deal and hockey would still be here, now we might suffer without hockey for a long time because players are idiots.

How credible do you think this is? I namely find it quite hard to believe due to just how ridiculous it'd be if it's true. If it is, though, then that's definitely a joke of an approach to serious negotiation.

Well Dreger and the tsn guys confirmed that the third one definitely wasn't figured out, so it wouldn't shock me if the first two weren't either.

Well according to OV, if contracts get slashed, most of the players that went to the KHL wont come back. Obviously sounds like a scare tactic by OV, but interesting also.

Not if they want to compete in the Olympics.

Also, that's fine. I hope Bryzgalov stays there.

If the NHL has to lose Ovechkin, Malkin, and Kovalchuk so that we lose Bryzgalov, I'd say that's more than ideal.

It isn't the same situation. Bryz is more in the Gonchar category--unlikely to make as much in Russian as he will in the NHL--even with reductions.

Also, it isn't clear what, if anything, the IIHF would do in the case in question. I suspect they would be more inclined to look for a way to avoid keeping those guys out of the olympics than to bow to the NHL, but no one really knows for sure.

I imagine IIHF will find a loophole, or produce one.

Ovechkin is pretty dumb. Ha, what does he think he is going to acheive mouthing off like that. Another win for the NHLPA, they can't even keep their members in check.

If several of the KHL players stay in russia, then good luck to them. They will be replaced quite easily, then will soon start grovelling to come back when the lower value players start getting paychecks at half the salary as the NHL.

I honestly don't care if OV decides to stay in Russia, just curious though; what are the ramifications if he does? I'd image that his contract with Washington (You know... the one that gaurentees him 9.5M until he is 36 years old) is nullified?

Does Washington relieve themselves of that cap figure or would it count anyway?

Does Washington still own his rights? or does he become a free agent if/when he decides to return to the NHL?

They would own his rights until he fulfills his contractual obligations, but would be relieved of his cap hit because the player would be suspended. (I'm not sure the technical language here, but essentially, it would be the Nashville / Radulov situation on a grander scale).

I'm pretty sure the proposal the NHL sent Tuesday would have the caps on the hook for his cap hit if he's playing in Europe.

Really? I find it hard to believe that there is no provision for a suspension based on non-fulfillment of contract. It would essentially kill that franchise, in this hypothetical situation, and I can't figure out who would benefit from that sort of situation.

Yes and no

If he is loaned there, it would apply

If he has gone rogue and is suspended, it wouldn't
