good for Krejci- I'd have said worse- these owners sign these guys to contracts and then want to say they wont pay

everyone here if they were a player I'm sure would be happy- I'd be pissed

At this point, everyone involved has my money but they don't have my sympathy. This whole thing is frigging ridiculous.

It was a stupid thing to say, regardless of the context.

come on Lou, how much of that is Bettman and how much of that is the league growing naturally by successful teams and all the brain power that goes into marketing. I have nothing against Bettman and I actually side a bit more with the owners, but a lot of guys could be in his position and take NBC deals and Winter Classic ideas and say, ya great!

Sure, but not anyone could treat the players like animals the same way Bettman does.

I would be pissed too... but I also know whining to people who make a fraction of what I do is not going to sway anyone.

You really think that's all Bettman and not just the progression of a sport that was down at one point? I'm sure he's done some things for that, but between inflation, the success of what the sport has been able to do, and branding, it was going to grow.

And do more and not lock the league out 3 times.

So if the numbers went reverse would you blame him? It was on his watch. Certainly not all Bettman but again it was under his watch....

As far as lockouts, the league wanted to negotiate a year ago and not wait...The players are just as responsible for this.

Do more? It's the NHL. 99% of Americans don't care about it, but somehow revenues kept rising because people kept paying...

I'm tired of the spin and "woe is me" from both sides. It was a stupid thing to say, and I stand by that.

The players want to play under their terms. They are just as much at fault as the owners are.

Also. I've been far from a pitchfork-carrying maniac when it comes to this lockout.

No, they chose to let the current CBA expire without negotiating a new one which they were asked to sit down a year ago...Nothing personal, just business.

The players are locked out because there is no CBA... Not like the owners said, "We have a collective bargaining agreement, but **** you guys, we don't like it"... Players had 12 months to start it up and don't just say you will play through the flawed old one....don't cry poor or victim now. And some players are playing...you know the ones that can go about 10 years without getting paid top dollar...not the Thornton's, Paille's or Campbell's...the ones who will never recoup this money..

But it was a Bruin not named Tim Thomas that said it...

It's hard to tell because it's text on a message board...but, I'm pretty sure that DKH was being sarcastic?

And clearly it's stupid only because Krejci said it and is a whipping boy. If it was Bergeron, it would have been gospel. Obviously.

I totally didn't get that vibe, but it could be. DKH's sarcasm elludes me on a fairly regular basis, which is hard to do.

Not necessarily no, i think this was a trend that was bound to come, the NHL and hockey in general is an exciting, fun sport to watch, period. I'll give him credit for backing and pushing ideas like the Classic and what not, but as far as the rise in revenue, it would be there (in some shape or form) whether he was commish or you were.

Before the season fine, but i just don't see a successful negotiation happening during the season.

I'm not saying the players aren't at fault either, they are, but Bettman is a joke of a commissioner.

I just don't understand how a professional athlete making millions of dollars (not just Krejci either) can argue the fact, even with a salary deduction they're still making millions of dollars. If you look back at the history of hockey and see what players used to make compared to what they make now, its not even close. If anything they should be thankful for what they have and how far the sport has come. Personally, the more quotes I see like this from the players, the less faith I have in this sport continuing to succeed and having the fan base to support it, its truly sad because I always felt it still had so much potential.

You can't understand why Krejci is saying Bettman is treating the NHLPA like crap? Really?
