Too many defenders there, he'd just be taking up a spot a youngster could use.

In the playoffs, you play to win. Harrold gave us a better chance of winning the way he played.

Log jam without Harrold. Who sits for Larsson exactly?

He was a full-time defenseman on our team last year in the playoffs. Harrold is your perfect 7th defenseman, he can play forward and defense, so the versatility he brings is very valuable. You can play 7 D-men, have him play a couple forward shifts, a couple shifts at defense, and throw him out on the PP. There's not many players you can do that with in this league...

Who knows, like we've been saying, everyone expects a trade. It's hard to see Larsson playing over those guys, but one of them may have to start sitting regularly, and we have to consider injuries. I doubt there will be many times when all 8 D-men are healthy.

Even then, Harrold may be our 8th defenseman as well as an extra forward.

Hey Harrold is pretty solid. He's a good bottom pairing D man, and can play the PP, and do lots of other things. He comes for a price of $525k which is the cheapest salary on the team.

I still would be okay trading a D man. Urbom can come up to play if there is an injury. Though I wouldn't do it until Volchenkov is healed. At that point somebody's gotta go. Tallinder is who I'd pick, but Greene has more value probably. Urbom would be next in line to play. He's played a couple times the last two seasons, and was fine.

The worst thing about having an extra D man if everyone is healthy is it forces us to carry one less forward. That one less forward might be Tedenby, or Butler.

Is this the first big injury of the lockout? What a joke.

The lockout needs to end.

First one I've heard so far. Wait until someone big is injured, and I'm not gonna go into any names either. Hopefully **** really hits the fan then. Fans don't wanna see their players get injured somewhere else.

I hope so. Him, and Zidlicky's cap hit at the very least coming off in 2013 will give us more flexibility to sign Zajac, and Clarkson long term depending on the final salary cap numbers. And free up real dollars too. We can replace them with cheaper guys like Urbom, and maybe Gelinas.

I won't argue Tallinder is depth, but last year I'll say this. When Tallinder went down we were fine. I remember when Greene went down we struggled. Not that it had anything to do with Tallinder going down it was just coincidence. I remember feeling a lot better with Greene back.

Well, this is irritating. Always a risk with Volch's style of play, but you'd prefer for it to happen while he's doing something heroic for the Devils.

In any case, I hope he heals fast and well, and is ready to go when we have a season here.

out of all our d-men, tallinder can probably get the biggest return (except larsson obviously). but even if we just dump his salary for a RW prospect- IF we get off to a good start- Lou needs to do it, IMO

Which is exactly why we should have let Salvador go this July.

I was hoping he would just rest instead of playing elsewhere. Now this forces him to.

Salvador is the life blood of the defence they really rallied around him during the playoffs. I'd be much quicker to move Volch than Sal, granted the injury not prevents that.

Tallinder isn't going anywhere, Pete loves him he made that clear when he came back in the finals. If we move anyone I think it would be Fayne ( wouldn't be thrilled about that though ) in some sort of package for a winger.

I love Salvador. Aside from some dumb giveaways in the season, and playoffs that everyone on the team is guilty of at some point or another, he was our best D man from December on. As I was saying I don't like the contract much, because I hope it's not a shape of things to come. Like 35 year old Zubrus getting a similar deal next Summer. He definitely shouldn't get that much Zubrus.

Ya pretty much. I'm certain we'll see plenty of those comments if a season starts.

As long as none of the players don't get hurt long term, it's not really a big deal. It's not like we need Volch right now anyway.

Try to imagine this. 35 year old Zubrus, combined with Salvador's contract is a high voltage laser containment system. Simply overpaying Zubrus, combined with Salvador will be like dropping a bomb on the Devils land.

So much for the expected D for F early season trade. He`ll be back when the games start to matter. Whatever.

He's also old as hell, has a history of concussion problems, and was playing miles above his head in the playoffs.

There's no way Sal can even come close to playing at the level he did last season. And since he's over 35, his cap hit is going to be on the books for the next three years regardless. I'm sorry but it was an atrocious signing.

Damn I completely botched my Ghostbuster quote in relation to the Zubrus/Salvador overpaid 35+ year contract scenario.

He was a full-time defenseman out of necessity...not because he was the best option.

Are we really having this conversation?

Volchenkov is built like a tank. One that breaks down a lot.

To play hockey four to six weeks after a fractured ankle seems very optimistic. Two to three months is probably more like it. Depending on the fracture of course but still.

Edit: read now that it's a small bone in the foot, not ankle really.
