He can stay in Vancouver and battle it out or he can accept a trade to a city he wants to go to.
If it got to the point where Gillis actually had a trade set up and Luongo was threatening to not waive his NTC, Gillis would probably just turn around and threat waiving him.

Even if I am a headcase Luongo, I much rather play in the pressure cooker of Philadelphia than tropical Columbus, Ohio.

Maybe you would, but that doesn't mean everyone would or should.

Well or course not, but if you had to guess do you think Luongo would rather contend here or sit in the basement in Columbus?

Not that it matters, why are we even having Luongo talk?

Bryz's bear cave

Sigh..at least it's not with the Flyers

Coming off a strong outing on Monday, Ilya Bryzgalov was rewarded with a second straight start yesterday for CSKA Moscow. Apart from one somewhat questionable goal from the deep slot by 26.Jarkko Immonen, Bryzgalov was strong for the first 50 minutes of the game.

Then the walls caved in.

are you surprised? its a broken record with this guy, horrible goalie who flourished in a great system. And what did the Flyers do hand him a contract of a franchise goaltender when he is no where near that.

Leighton will have better stats then Bryzaster when hockey starts again.

Hopefully Pronger is improving and we can amnesty Bryz.

Not happening. Bryz may be overrated, but Leighton blows.

I will buy you a case of beer if the Leighton thing happens. I'm not even joking.

He's living up to it so far. Maybe he'll get this out of his system before the season starts..if it starts of course.

There is no word yet on whether Ilya Bryzgalov (4 GP, 1-3-0, 3.27 GAA, .887 SV%) or Rastislav Stana (12 GP, 7-2-0, 1.47 GAA, .951 SV%, 3 SO) will be in goal for CSKA today. Head coach Valeri Bragin does not publicly reveal his starting goalie in advance of games.

One would suspect that Stana gets the nod today. It's not just because he's a Slovak. Stana is coming off a shutout in his last start and has simply been the better goaltender thus far in the early regular season.

Stana gets the nod. Up 2-0 after one.

I wonder why he went to CSKA in the first place, seeing as how he didn't come from their system. I guess they didn't count on Stana tearing it up as much as he does at the moment, despite strong numbers in the past. And on the topic of Stana, does anyone know why he was never given more of a shot in the NHL? He namely posted insane numbers in the AHL in the 2003/04 season (24G, 1.68 GA, .941) for the Pirates.

Also, on the topic of Bryz and perusing the eliteprospects database, the short profile made me chuckle a bit:

A large goalie who covers the net well. Has excellent reflexes and a quick glove. Mentally strong. Moves well but could still improve. (Matias Strozyk)

He never warms the bench. Either he plays or he's a healthy scratch.

He probably figured he can make more money in the SEL then he could in the NHL. Of course the lockout happened after the 03-04 season. Or maybe the Caps were ticked at him for chosing to go overseas instead of playing in the AHL.

Oh yeah, forgot about the lockout. That definitely could've derailed things in terms of continuity. Hopefully teams are more understanding of players choosing the path they think is best, though, and don't hold grudges.

ultimately a player has to do what is best for themselves when there is a lockout. You probably couldnt fault Stana tho. his contract had likely run out with Washington(dont know that for sure) and he chose to make good money in the SEL then stay making little money in the AHL

Looks like his deal ran out when the lockout was about to happen and went back overseas during it and stayed there

Bryz (3rd stringer)

Quote:
BRYZGALOV REMAINS HEALTHY SCRATCH

Former Washington Capitals goaltender Rastislav Stana got both starts for CSKA Moscow during its two-game road trip through the former Czechoslovakia. Yesterday, CKSA was in Prague, Czech Republic, where it downed HC Lev, 3-2.

Stana took a shutout into the third period before yielding a pair of power play goals; the latter of which was scored late in regulation with Lev goaltender Tomas Pöpperle pulled for a 6-on-4 attack. Overall, Stana stopped 25 of 27 shots.

Ilya Bryzgalov has not dressed for any of the CSKA games in which he has not been the starting goaltender, and yesterday was no exception. Ilya Proskuryakov backed up Stana in Prague. It remains to be seen when Bryzgalov will get his next start. CSKA plays on Sunday and Wednesday.

For the season, Bryzgalov has started four games, with a 1-3-0 record, 3.23 goals against average and .887 save percentage. Stana has appeared in 14 games (11 starts), with a 9-2-0 record, 1.55 goals against average, .947 save percentage and three shutouts. Proskuryakov has made five starts (all prior to Bryzgalov's arrival), with a 2-1-2 record, 2.13 goals against average and .931 save percentage.
