Didn't even know there were other Caps over there. Are there? Whatever. No one cares about the crappy ass KHL.

I check in from time to time to make sure that Alex is leading the league in goals and points.

He's not.

I wish some hedge fund dbag would buy the team and move them to bk. But the idiots who built Barclay's Center didn't configure it for the NHL.

They're going there regardless. Announcement is at 1pm today, moving to Barclay's starting 2015 (or so it seems).

Wow, I've been so out of hockey I had no idea. 14,500 capacity. Gotta charge a 24% premium on tickets (assuming a 18k seat venue is ideal).

Rumor out there that it's a long lease, too. I don't get that, since as you say the capacity and sightlines aren't what they need to be.

They'll be fine financially. They have a ton of luxury boxes and New York City TV revenue to play with.

Meh, it's not like they'd break the 14k mark for average attendance anyway. They haven't done that since 2002-03.

Exactly. Even if they pulled in the exact same amount of people as at the coliseum at the exact same seat prices the addition of all the luxury boxes puts them in a lot better shape financially.

I would have thought a big appeal for moving closer to the city (not to mention significantly nicer facilities) is the potential ability to draw more people. Locking yourself in to a small building seems counterproductive in that respect, although if the deal is sweet enough I guess it doesn't matter. And, of course, it would depend on whether they're actually moving into a better location for most of their fanbase.

Doesn't Barlays have like 82 boxes compared to 32 that nassau has? Should make up some different. Sort of like the atypical layout will be different than the standard oval. Seems like a smaller building over all so potentially good crowd noise.

Easy way to make yourself a candidate for revenue sharing. Aint gonna make that HRR if your building is the size of a boxcar.

The Isles have averaged more than 14500 fans in a season twice in the last 23 years. I don't see the number of seats as much of a problem...

And I read the Barclay Center has 101 luxury suites.

I believe there is a minimum capacity to qualify for revenue sharing, but someone more well versed in the cba will have to confirm.

Barclays is still a better option for them than Nassau Coliseum at this point, so they took what was available given the resistance to them building a new arena in Nassau county. I'm surprised by the length of the lease, but moving to an existing arena that's still close and accessible to their fanbase seems like the best choice for them at this time.

Oh yea?

Well this decision does seem very Islandersish then.

Well, that was the old CBA, and IINM the Isles TV deal or market was too good for them to get anything in the first place (the new proposals wouldn't punish them in that way, so who knows what capacity limits would be like as well).

Yeah, I get that. It may be that the deal is sweet enough for Wang to say "**** it, we're moving now," figuring that he might not even own the team anymore by the time the capacity becomes a serious limitation. At the very least I guess this is the only realistic option for them if they want to avoid outright relocation.

As someone who is a 15 minute walk from the arena I'm pretty stoked. I'll be buying at least a 20 game plan.

Because if there's one way to ease the pain of being a Caps fan, it's picking up a casual Islanders fandom on the side...

(Heck, I'd do it too if it were my best option for live hockey).

My closest team geographically is the Wild. If I start now, I'll be looked at like a Suter/Parise driven bandwagon hopper, like 98% of the Wild fans actually are. So, I guess I probably could. At least they are in the West...

Wells Fargo Center is about a 10 minute walk from where I work, and thus I can essentially get free parking to games there. I still only go to Caps games there and avoid it otherwise. **** the Flyers.
